Default Pinterest question

I just wondered how members here feel about having photos of their quilts pinned at Pinterest. I personally don't mind...but have seen a few blogs where people did not like it at all. Therefore, I hesitate to pin anything but it would be so handy to have to pin quilts that I like or might one day want to make.

I go there and look at the quilts that people have pinned, and so far everyone I have clicked on goes back to the origin. It isn't as if people are claiming they did it...they are just saying they like something.

I have never given it much thought because I can't imagine anyone pinning one of my quilts, but if they do, so be it. You shouldn't put things on the interenet if you are going to worry about people copying the picture or such. It is only fair to give credit to the original maker, but there is no way to guarantee that.

I would be flattered if someone loved one of my quilts that much and wanted to use it for inspiration, can't see why someone wouldn't like it. If you didn't want your work viewed why would you post a picture of it. Once posted anywhere on the internet whether pinterest or not everyone has access to view it and store it in their files.

I totally agree...I would be flattered if someone wanted to pin a quilt that I had made. I do think that credit should be given if possible. I know there are ways to make your pictures "unpinnable"...so I guess if you don't want something pinned, that could be an option.

I have always been aware that once I post something on a public forum like this, it's on the internet, never to be controlled again... I LOVE it when I see my work "pinned"! I was so tickled the first time I saw one of my pieces when I was browsing someone's board of "Fabulous Freemotion Quilting" for inspiration! I've since run across several of my pieces and always feel flattered that others like it enough to pin.

If you don't want others to see, and perhaps share your work, the best thing is to not put in anywhere on the internet it in the first place. I believe this forum is open to anyone in the world to read and only requires registration if you want to post. So, please be aware of your possible audience when posting.

This is so crazy to complain about someone pinning the quilt they made. If they really want to keep it so very private they should perhaps do what a nasty quilter I know did. Make the quilt and then put it the closet and don't let anyone ever look at it or touch it.

I noticed that some sites have restricted posting to Pinterest. Also ... Pinterest now has "private" pages which I have started using.

lastly ... I had pinned a cute little bird pattern and my notes indicated 'cute PP birds would look great in a string'. The author made a comment on my pin "I made that and it is NOT Paper pieced!". I think I knew that but was planning on making my own in a PP format.

That is what I was thinking about using the private pages for....at least for the quilts. Because it was a quilting blog that I seen that disliked it. And I have seen one or two marked to not use on Pinterest.

I am with those that feel honored to have anything at all pinned! I thought about emailing one or two to see if they minded...I would love to just pin the quilts rather than bookmark them. To me Pinterest is like a public bookmarking place.

There are some blogs and sites that have blocked pinning, so I don't worry too much about it. And I'm one of those who are flattered if I find something of mine pinned. I once ran across a tutorial I made a couple of years ago, and was quite flattered because the pinner said she finally got it (the technique). On the other hand, I do have one quilt that I don't want copied yet, so I have purposefully not posted pictures of it anywhere.

It wouldn't bother me at all. I don't go on pinterest and wouldn't know if any of mine are there or not.
