4th of July Activities

One our local towns has cancelled all 4th of July activities, except the fireworks. Temps are expected to be the highest we've had in this century. Yep, that wasn't a typo, century. I'm hoping they'll cancel ours too. It's just too hot to enjoy it. I told dh we'd go to the parade, but that's it. My dd doesn't do well with heat, makes her stomach queasy. Any rumor of that happening where you live?

Our town and several others around have called off the fireworks. We are still having the concerts and such, but I doubt they are well attended.

They are cancelling fireworks around here because of the dryness and fear of starting fires!

Suppose to be 100 degrees tomorrow in Wisconsin. We might go watch the fireworks from our air conditioned car tomorrow night.

Fireworks can still be shot off in out county - but surrounding counties have cancelled them due to the drought - and so blasted hot - I am staying inside - too hot to enjoy anything outside

No fireworks here; not even public displays, and the law enforcement will be STRICTLY enforcing the ban, due to our fire as well as the others in CO.

The only activities we have in our town are the car races and fireworks. Fireworks are only allowed in town with a $5000 fine outside city limits. This means that there is a big tailgate party at Walmart every year....

They'll be having fireworks in our town. They shoot them over a lake. We have a neighborhood parade with a firetruck leading the way. The parade just goes around the block twice. It was hot and it was only 9 am. I had enough time between rounds to run inside and get a battery powered fan.

Same here in Aurora CO . No fireworks display, just to hot and dry. Fires still burning North and South of us. So many people burned out, very sad. May you all have a safe holiday.

A big fireworks display in a nearby town but too crowded and hot to go for me. The kids were all here Sunday for a cookout and then left for the lake until tomorrow. I have three sewing friends coming over Thursday to sew with me. DH is home until Monday so he is out and about, in and out. He always has something going on to occupy his time. I think today is figuring out why the window washing contraption is not working like it used to. LOL.

I din't think that paoli will have fireworks because of the dry grass.
The big hotel & casino in the next town cancelled theirs for tonight. I don't think I could stay out side for long. to watch them. I can't even water my plants & flowers till night time.
GOD BLESS THE U.S.A. Be safe & may God bless all of you. CAthy A

I am in central IN. Our community has postponed the annual fireworks to Labor Day weekend. Although our county has a 'burn' ban, they have not banned personal fireworks. I am guessing just too hard to enforce. It is close to 100 here again today...like walking into a furnace when one steps outside. I have also 'un' invited my 83 year old parents. Too hot for them to be out. We are not doing our usual 4th of July cookout (we have always done one...starting in the afternoon with swimming in our pool followed by a cookout and then culminating with the community fireworks which are shot off just across from our house). We no longer have the above-ground pool and our children are grown with lives/activities of their own. Today I am trying to clean up my sewing room. We will grill some burgers later on but will eat in the house in the air-conditioning. I am really so very sick of the weather we have had this summer. The yard crunches under our feet and crops are suffering.

Here is one of my firecrackers. We ended up going to the parade in our town, my dd decorated her bike. We had lunch and played a few games. Then we baled and headed home to the AC.

Hadn't heard anything, but we're staying inside! Making hamburgers, deviled eggs, and got a watermelon- all in the air-conditioning!

I'm in KY, right on the Ohio River. Most of the counties surrounding us are in extreme drought conditions with the hottest June on record-EVER. Most have a burn ban in effect and have cancelled fireworks. Even if there is a community fireworks planned, they have banned personal fireworks. We'd had almost two straight weeks of 100+ degree weather. Some days it's been 107 with high humidity. We were so grateful to receive a pop up storm two days again that dropped 2 1/4 inches of rainfall, but it was very spotty. Farms around here are looking pretty sad.
