55+ age communities

Does anyone know of an affordable retirement community around Houston, Texas. Preferably not in Houston, but just on the north side.

OH, I'm watching this. I'm from HOUSton but would love to move back there one of these days. My Son lives north of HOuston now.

I believe there are some in the Tomball (corner of Holderrieth & Cherry Streets and another one at Northpointe) and Magnolia area. I over-heard some comments about them at quilting last week, but didn't pay close attention, so I don't know the names. We also have a great quilt store, Quilters Crossing, near the historic railroad depot in Tomball. This is a fast growing area, but it still has the small town feeling. You might do well by contacting the Chamber of Commerce in each city, or research online. There are lots of organizations to keep you both busy and entertained. We have a branch of the Lone Star College where you can participate in the "Adult Life Long-Learning" program, too.

No kidding! :D I went 55+ shopping with a friend of mine a couple of years ago. It looked a lot to me as though pricing was based on empty nesters with lots (and lots) of equity in the homes where they had raised their kids.

There needs to be a lot of research. We have a wonderful one close by, but they never give out their prices. It has to be done in a private appointment. My friends and I think it boils down to "Tell us how much money you have and that's how much it costs to get in". There are plans that will supply everything you need from meals to laundry to shuttle, etc. but it is all added into the monthly fee, after you buy in. So, if I had unlimited funds, I would love it. Just be sure what is included in all the pricing plans.

We want to buy a house or condo in an area that is only retired or almost retired couples.
