:D I was only 2 in 1955, but I do remember jars of baby food being on sale for a nickle a jar. Sometimes on sale 2 for a nickle. Amd there would be gas wars going on @ Service Stations and you could find gas for 19 cents a gallon! What a deal! I am honestly glad that my Granny is not here today to see how things are. Bless her little heart, she would have had a fit. She thought a woman wearing pants meant that she was trashy. :D I do miss her though. Boy the stories she could tell of how it was back in her day!

I was born in Sept 55 so no I don't remember these! LOL When my dad closed his gas station in 73 we had full service at 59.9 and mini service was 54.9 that was my first real job. Full service you pumped the gas and automatically checked the oil and the battery and added water and oil when needed and you cleaned the windows. Mini service I still pumped the gas but didn't check fluids or wipe the windows. This was the precursor of self service.

I was born on Sept 30 55 the same day Buddy Holly died.

my parents weren't even born back then.... i kindof wish i had lived back then. i hate how everyone is in a hurry to get no where and people are so hung up on material things and upgrading this and that. i'd love to spend all day cooking from scratch and looking after the house/kids while hubby is off earning $$. a lot of the good things got replaced by new technology and i often wonder what it would have been like before that happened. sounds like there are a lot of people on here who have a lot of wisdom to share and experiences that my generation can never have.

Me too. I was married in 1955. By 1958 we had 2 children and my 'house' money for the week was bugeted for $20. I was so happy when there were 5 weeks in a month because I had $20 for extras. May in Jersey
