Our AC is not working! Send cool weather!

Fans going, windows open, it's cooler outside than in. Not sure how well we'll sleep.

Repairs not coming until NEXT Wed!

Can someone send some snow? lol

craftybear 07-06-2011 07:36 PM

I wished I could help. Hotter than you know what here too. But for now we have our power. Last week was out for 4hrs due to transformer explosion at one of our plants. They estimated 100,000 to 150,000 customers were out. that was horrible enough. I do feel for you,if you were closer I would invite you to stay over. Hope you can find some relief until you get it fixed. Hang in there. Sue

I so feel for you. My AC went about a month ago and I was suffering so I didn't stay home. HeHe BUT price to fix was gut wrenching. :(

Our natural A.C kicked on yesterday around here when the fog rolled in. (San Fransisco Bay Area). The more you go inland the higher the temps go.

Open the windows at night or early morning when it is cooler. get all the fans going and cool the house off as much as possible. Then as soon as the sun starts coming up close the windows, close the blinds and curtains, keep the fans running. It will trap some of that cool air in. Good Luck stayin cool.

Amythyst02 07-06-2011 09:31 PM

If I had any cool weather I would certainly share with you, unfortunately, its pretty hot here too.

rusty quilter 07-06-2011 09:39 PM

When I think about how long and dreary last winter was in Michigan--it helps me through the hotter days--at least there is sunshine!

BellaBoo 07-06-2011 10:14 PM

110 window units are cheap and will cool a bedroom.

MelodyWB 07-06-2011 10:24 PM

Oh..I would..but I'm in Arizona..you wouldn't want my help..lol.. Hope it gets fixed for you soon !!

blueangel 07-07-2011 01:38 AM

Sorry I don't have any cool air here but try to stay as comfortable as you can.

frauhahn 07-07-2011 02:55 AM

My Mom used to blow her fans across pans of ice water. It really did help keep the air cooler.

AlwaysQuilting 07-07-2011 03:19 AM

Oh I hope you can go stay with friends or something. (I wonder how our ancestors survived without a/c?? They wore long sleeves and pants and long dresses each day....yikes.)

kimscruzer 07-07-2011 03:56 AM

This is what I do . In a pince when it's super humid I will put my window AC unit in the bedroom and cool it down just before going to bed. In the heat of the day we would go tothe pool , movies , museums etc. Put the fans in the windows at night to cool the house down. The large oscilators are the best.

I remember as a child saying I would never have AC. In PA growing up it never seemed this warm to me. BUT in the summer I was at/in the lake most of the time! What did I know? ;)

lheartsl 07-07-2011 05:34 AM

Me i would get a cheap window unit just for the bed room and camp out there... (cheaper then staying in a hotel, which would be my other opt)
I can't help with the cooler weather either... 730 it was already 82 and humid!
Like someone else said keep all the blinds, shades closed, doors closed, Keeping the sun out will help a bit....

redkimba 07-07-2011 05:34 AM

QuiltingGrannie - you have my sympathy. about half of the neighborhood lost electricity yesterday morning, but luckily it was back on when I got home.

I can take the heat, but please send rain!

Murphy 07-07-2011 07:52 AM

We used to put a large chunk of ice in a bucket in from of the fan and it sent cool air as we slept. It works and at least allows some sleep time. Hang in there.

sewmuchmore 07-07-2011 08:14 AM

Take a hot water bottle and put in ice cold water lay it at the end of the bed on a towel. If you can keep your neck and feet cool you will sleep better. I pray that they will be able to get to very soon. I wear a cool tie around my neck it does help, Huddy keep the air at 84.

BellaBoo 07-07-2011 05:16 PM

Why would anyone suffer through being so miserable in the heat when window units are so inexpensive? I don't understand that.
