Adhesive for Formal Wear

My daughter is a bridesmaid in a wedding this Saturday. Her dress fits fine. It's a one-shoulder gown that requires a strapless bra, which also fits her fine.

Problem is, the dress in the back is only slightly higher than the bra, and since the fabrics are both slippery, the dress rides down ,exposing the bra in back and under the arm.

The dress is light lilac, so regular safety pins would show. I'm not up on my garment "fixes" so I'd appreciate suggestions for my daughter to try. She needs the dress and bra to stay together without stitching them because she needs the bra again in two months for yet another wedding she'll be in!

Just tack it down on both sides with a couple stitches you can take them out after she wears it and do it again as needed.

There is double-sided tape for garment emergencies like this. Here is a link to just one of them on Amazon:

Edit: Ooh, I like the tacking idea too if it won't show!

I still laugh when I look at my son's wedding pictures one of the girls chose a black bra to wear with her pale turquoise dress. the straps show in all the pictures!

For a similar situation with a prom dress, I made tiny little straps, attached them to the dress, and then slipped the bra through the straps before it was fastened. Make sure the straps just barely fit the bra or they will rise up.

JoAnn Fabrics has the tape available in the store.

And maybe near the zipper and bra hook up. Try it on so you can line them up with the bra about an inch below the top line. This will help to zip and no seams or tacks to show. I'm not a seamstress but years ago the lady who made my cousins prom dress thought it to promiscuous. Didn't care how the sideseams looked. I took the sides in enough to where I could stitch it. No one could tell.

Only thing about the tape is some may be allergic to adhesive.

I agree. Just tack it temporarily for the ceremony.

That must be a " new" fashion look.....different colored bra with straps purposely showing under those skinny strapped tanktops. Saw a commercial on tv...a quick pic of a woman in a semi-sheer white dress with black bra and panties...very visible.....now to me nude colored undies would be more provocative......keep 'em guessing!
