Re: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-47203-1.htm
This thread got me thinking about the search screen. So I added some of the proposed features under the "advanced options" link near the search button. If you specify "topic's author", then only threads started by that person will be listed. But you need to make sure to spell the user name exactly as it's listed on the account. It's not like with user search, where you can enter just a part of the user name. If the user name you entered cannot be found, then it gets discarded and the search proceeds as if no user name was specified. Also, you can limit the results to just specific sections of the board. You can select more than one section. If you select the "Sort to show most recent topics first" then you'll get the same list of topics, but they will be sorted by the time they were created instead of keyword relevance. That might help if you know that the topic you are looking for was created just a few days ago. I haven't really tested the new features, so please let me know if something isn't working right. |
Thank you Admin :D:D:D

thank you admin. we will test it out for you
|
thank you, Admin. I will try it out tonight.
|
Thank you!
|
Pretty slick Admin... I am liking this feature A LOT :D:D:D
|
Cool!!
|
AWESOME! :)
I tested by putting in 9 patch and then crazy quilt by pictures. It'll work great when you know you saw a 9 patch (or some block) that you loved and couldn't remember where you seen it! Thanks |
I like it!
I searched for "log cabin" and selected several different areas to search. Worked like a charm. It didn't bring up swaps or things I didn't ask for. Thanks |
I just tried it and it works! Thank you admin!
|
Thanks! Like the way this works.

This is a winner! Thank-you Admin.
I tested each of the features you noted and each was user friendly and successful. In addition, If nothing is entered in the topic field, I got no search results eventhough a user id was put in the advanced options field. As a bonus, the topic field is searching by 'Title and/or content' word 'to the letter'. (Changes the search results using the singular and the plural of a word.) As an example: dsb38327. (the word) All (in the topic field) shows all of the post I have created. dsb38327. (the word) sun (in the topic field) shows the one post I made that has the word 'sun' in it. dsb38327. (the word) sunshine (in the topic field) shows my posts that have the word 'sunshine' in them. This worked as well using lostn51/thunderstorm & thunderstorms. Thunderstorm: Hypothermia can set in just getting caught in a freak summer thunderstorm. Thunderstorms: Severe Storms and Tornadoes are Here Tonite!! |
Gee this works great! Thanks so much.
|
way easier!
|
awesome, thanks a million
|
Wow! This is excellent! It makes searching for things SO much easier by not having to wade through so much to find something. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! :D

If nothing is entered in the topic field, I got no search results eventhough a user id was put in the advanced options field. Search is performed using a separate index (not he main database), so simply iterating over threads without any keywords wouldn't work. dsb38327. (the word) All (in the topic field) shows all of the post I have created. So chances are a lot of threads contain it at least once. When you limit the listing to just one particular user and search for a common word, it might appear like all threads are returned. But if there is a thread that doesn't contain that specific word, you won't see it listed. At least you shouldn't. If you actually find such example, then please let me know. I would be interested in seeing it. There is a list of stop words that don't get indexed, such as "the". But "all" is not a stop word, yet it's used frequently enough to cause what you are seeing. |
awesome, thanks a million Admin.!!!!
