advice on how pinterest works?

I usually can figure things out ...but Pinterest is so confusing! I was trying to get on a site for some recipes for the kitchen aide lady. Got to the site, pictures came up but no info on how to make them. I do not want to just see the pretty food. I want to know how to do it!

It is confusing! Usually under the photo there is a light gray button that says "visit" or "visit site" and if you click on that it will link you to the posters page with all the information.

Not all the links work. If a recipe isn't in the link I Google the name and sometimes I can find it that way.

I'm confused, too. If I touch a picture, it says I've pinned it when I only wanted to look at it, and not save it anywhere. Then I noticed on Facebook that items other people have pinned are posted about once a week. If I do pin things, I don't necessarily want to share them. ???? So I just stay away from anything Pinterest.

I usually click on the button that says visit site. Sometimes there will be instructions or a recipe, sometimes not. It took me awhile to figure it out too, but I love pinterest. Lots of great recipes and idea. hang in there you will catch on.

i didn't join pinterest, just because. looking, not collecting. and i used to look a lot, but now the page turns half black & it wants me to join or sign in using my facebook account. i don't facebook either. sometimes i can sneak fast enough & click link to site if there is one before the join or sign demand appears. pinterest was members only for first couple of years, then it was free to use member or not. now it's members only again. there is juxtapost, indulgy & others ---no blocks, no membership, easy to wander in. can click & look w/o saving anywhere. i can get lost on indulgy for days & days ...and have. pinterest is just not needed anymore by anyone.

I notice the sign up page coming up on a lot of blogs/websites more than I used to. Probably just the way things are going.

I do belong to pinterest, and enjoy seeing what their suggested pins are for me. A lot of recipe, sewing, and painting pages. I save a very small portion for future reference.

But I have not heard of juxtapost, so will check that out.

I agree with you........it's like going down the rabbit hole......I stay away....daughter signed me up and I just delete without opening......I don't want to spend all day in a labyrinth

when I click on something I like a page with item clicked. At the top of the pic there are options-pin it. visit site. fb. Click visit site.
I have found a lot of interesting projects, patterns and recipes. You can search for anything. I love it.

I always depend on finding items I am looking for on Google too.

You can make your Pinterest boards private, so that nobody else will see what you're saving.

I must agree, Pinterest is a rabbit hole that one can fall down and get lost in quite easily, but I do love it! It was a little bit creepy when people started "following" me though. :) But I'm not posting anything objectionable so I figured I wouldn't worry about it. I mostly save photos of craft/sewing rooms that I will never be able to have (LOL) and links to free sewing/crochet/knitting patterns and ideas.

Supposedly, I joined and I've been pinned (?)! I rarely go there. I keep trying to unsubscribe to notifications and gave up. Now I just delete from my email inbox.

I enjoy Pinterest. I get inspired by what other quilters post and have found some wonderful recipes there. It does take some self control though.......it is easy to linger!!

I do like to visit pinterest, but never sign in with my Facebook account. I always only sign in with my e-mail (as with all sites).
Whenever I've wanted to visit a site I find on Pinterest, I've only had to click on the picture and it takes me to the exact thing I'm looking for (recipe or whatever). When I want to pin something I click on the red "pin it" button in the upper left corner. I'm not very savvy at getting around on sites, but never sign into any account with FB...always use my e-mail. Although I use FB a little, I find it too intrusive for my taste.

Usually at the bottom of the picture, you'll find their website. If the link doesn't work, just copy and paste and go to it directly.

I love Pinterest! I have more than 260 boards. Pinterest is merely a place to hold links to other sites. If you aren't getting the info you want when you go to a site, it isn't Pinterest's fault, it's the site's problem. Some sites just aren't any good. Some sites make you go through hoops to get the info you are looking for. As someone else said, you can make any or all of your boards private. And if someone follows you or pins something of yours and you don't want them to do that, you can block them. I am not on Face Book, but I spend a lot of time on Pinterest!
