Congratulations to this beautiful young lady !!! She has made a good choice and I hope it is all she thinks it will be. My Grandaughter (almost 23) has a mind of her own also and she has made great decisions. All good. Thank her for her future service to our wonderful country.

Congrats to doing somthing like that from one AF member to another thanks. Please dont let her recruiter do her wrong. Make sure she gets what she wants job wise.

If she is seriously talking to a recruiter, tell her to investigate her options and negotiate for what she wants to be. There are programs the Air Force will pay for. For example, if she wants to go to dental school it's possible they will "swear" her in, she becomes a member of the Air Force, she goes through basic training, and they send her to school. After she completes her education she would be committed to give the AF 3-4 years afterward. But it addition, having a degree she would go in as an officer as opposed to going in as an enlistee.

Sew, tell her to negotiate. They want good people.

is it true? i have heard that you are suppose to get it in writing as to your career choice before you enlist? my 3 brothers got that for the navy, and all ended up being electricians of l form or another.

My grandson did. Can't remember his "title" but something like a flying linguist. After basic he's signed up for language training and then survival school. Basically a flying translator, spending most of his time on a military plane.

My son graduated from the Air Force Academy, and he got in by enlisting, applying to the AFA prep school, and then to the Academy. It certainly is not for everyone. They have a drop out rate of about 20%. Officer Training School is a good choice as is ROTC.

People are right about getting the job desired in writing. The needs of the Air Force come first, so it is important to make sure they put you on the correct path for your chosen job.

They have many fabulous benefits for education.

Congratulations on your lovely granddaughter and bless her. My grandson did his Airforce basic at Lackland 2 yrs ago. Is in Intellengence at Gordon in Georgia. They make us proud don't they?

Congratulations for her. My daughter graduated high school last June and went straight from high school to Army bootcamp. She will lose the lip ring (and any other piercings.. those are history too for training and then on work days). They go from glamorous to .. heros in all of one day. No make up, everyones hair is exactly the same. They are too tired to care too which is awfully good. I know you are proud of her. A scary time to enlist and for each one that does I hope everyone says a prayer of thanks for the selfless gift they give in the name of our country.

She is trying to get her older sister to join. She is in her first year of college. She may very well go to as she is already running out of money. Books are almost as high prices as tuition. :-P
