We had to rush our 10 year old lab to the vet Tuesday.Turns out he is Diabetic. I had taken him in recently due to his not being well, but when they tested him it did not show diabeties. He gets insulun shots twice a day. i have been cooking him lean meats and mixing in vegetables to get him to eat. Anyone who has experience with having a diabetic dog i would be so greatful for any advice or to point me to reputable sources.

Take a look here... you might find more on that site by doing a search for diabetes. It's a great board for Lab owners.

My old Aussie was diabetic for 3 years before we lost her. She got insulin injections 2x a day and was on prescription Science Diet dog food. It was a hard row to hoe but she was worth it. She got to where she would tell me if she was needing a shot by going to the fridge where the insulin was. But she did develop cataracts and went totally blind. I couldn't afford to have cataract surgery for her but she adapted very well.

I had a diabetic kitty for years. Good luck to you. It is a bit of a learning curve but can often be managed fairly well/easily.

My cat developed diabetes when he turned 17. Since your dog is younger I think it will be easier to control. Tigger was okay for awhile but his age was against him.
Good luck!! :D Glad they caught it early.
