Am I paranoid or what?

I put a double layer of smiley stickers over the "camera" on my computer. The odds are probably very low of anyone hacking into this computer to see what I am doing - or me accidentally in that program - but still - - - -

lynnie 09-04-2015 07:51 AM

I put a post it up there. some guy on shark tank was selling something 'computerish' to cover it and they said doesn't everyone put a post it over it. you're not paranoid!!!! there are a lot of crazies out there.

Tartan 09-04-2015 08:21 AM

It is makes sense to cover the camera eye!

Joset 09-04-2015 09:27 AM

i did that once and then my screen got really dull

Rose Marie 09-04-2015 09:34 AM

There was an intruder who hacked into a baby monitor and was yelling for the baby to wake up.
So hackers can hack anything.

NJ Quilter 09-04-2015 11:46 AM

Never even occurred to me! Have heard discussions about it before but never remember by the time I get to the computer. I figure I'll just scare anyone that hacks in with my appearance in the AM's that will cause them to never want to hack in again!

Stitchnripper 09-04-2015 11:51 AM

I folded a piece of paper over the computer to cover the camera. When the grandkids call me on Face time they have to remind me to move it. But if anyone hacked in they would see my kitchen sink.

ManiacQuilter2 09-04-2015 11:52 AM

I wouldn't have one of those things on my computer.

Chasing Hawk 09-04-2015 12:02 PM

I keep the clip on light over the camera lens on mine. It's like a small book light, just enough to see the keyboard in the dark.

Not that anyone would see anything exciting. Unless you count watching a cat sleep exciting. Or me giving the monitor the evil eye when the bad guy in my video game kills me...lol

Me too! Have given over remote access twice with new OS and it only hit my brain last night...put a post- it over. Seems all computers come with camera now. Think I disabled it on Win10 - hope so'

Speaking of remote access, I did that with the tech guy while trying troubleshoot my printer problems. It was weird seeing things move across my screen and I wasn't the one doing it. He fixed it and severed the link and no issues whatsoever after that.

Thanks for the reminder to cover the camera!! I had forgotten all about it, but have read about the hacking through them. Yuck.

GingerK 09-04-2015 01:41 PM

Nope never thought of it. But if I ever get arrested for scaring someone to death , the dead guy will be the camera hacker that saw me in the morning before my first cup of coffee!!!

nativetexan 09-04-2015 03:26 PM

Nope, always better to be safe than sorry. Like pulling down your shades or shutting the curtains. Just good sense.

OMG, me too, on that one. My first good laugh of the day--did you hear it? Bwahahaha

marymay 09-05-2015 04:52 AM

I just heard about the baby monitors but never heard about the camera on my computer. I will check that out today.

tessagin 09-05-2015 04:55 AM

LOL!! Me too!!!!!!

I've had blue painters tape over my camera. It's comes off easy if I want to use the camera, but it goes on without any trouble too.

caspharm 09-05-2015 09:59 AM

I have a sticky over mine and so does DH. I even did my laptop.

Debbie C 09-05-2015 12:59 PM

I use an iPad, so it's covered most of the time....

bearisgray 09-05-2015 01:29 PM

So I'm not the only one that covered it - - - :)

patski 09-05-2015 02:20 PM

I put a band aid with the thicker part of the camera! We may be paranoid, but with cause

MFord 09-05-2015 02:50 PM

Wondered why all my feeds went dark :D

OMG!! Too funny

coopah 09-05-2015 03:39 PM

I have a Post-It over my full size computer and a dot band-aid over the iPad camera. Not paranoid. Cautious. That's smart, not paranoid!

starshine 09-05-2015 03:52 PM

Never was aware of any of this. post-it on there now. Thanks for this thread bearisgray. As my aunt used to say-an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. No harm if no one hacks, but if someone would it would stop them from viewing.

DACO48 09-05-2015 08:12 PM

I use a small piece of painters tape. Comes off without leaving any residue.

rjwilder 09-06-2015 06:19 AM

A few years ago my husband was using his computer and all of a sudden his camera flashed. Then a message appeared on his screen something about the computer not being secured or protected and wanted him to buy some software. We took it into Best Buy and the tech told us the message was spam and somehow the spammers were able to make it look like his photo was taken by making the camera flash. All of our computer have always had antivirus software on them that updates automatically. So how this happened is still a mystery. We do have the camera disabled on all our computers now just in case.

BettyGee 09-06-2015 07:51 AM

My son is a computer engineer and he constantly tells me horror stories about the creeps that prey on home computer users. No you are not paranoid, just smart.

mojo11 09-06-2015 01:05 PM

I put a piece of painters tape over mine.

annette1952 09-07-2015 07:42 AM

I never gave it a thought before. Thanks for the info. Just now I put a sticker over mine & also over DH. It is a shame that this world is coming to all of this. You can't sit in the privacy of your own home without thinking someone could be watching you if they decided to hack your computer. They would be terribly bored if they hacked mine! lol (Unless they loved quilting that is!) lol

IDquilter 09-10-2015 04:26 PM

I'm a little late coming to the party here but I cover the camera on my computer, have for some time now. I just don't like the idea of someone being able to look in when I don't feel like company.
