AMANIAFRICA Sewing Training Program

Has anyone taken part in this project of providing a sewing training program for marginalized women in Africa? I saw
a short article in Stitch magazine that explained a little, but not in detail. Their website AMANIAFRICA.ORG was very
limited. It sounds like something that I would like to help with but need more information .

Thank you.

I haven't heard of that particular organization but have head of programs where organizations teach the women to sew, providing machine and fabric. As wonderful as it is for immediate use that the organizations do the dresses for the little girls, how much more wonderful it will be to teach their mothers to sew. Some of the women have even opened modest businesses with their learned sewing skills. That would have to give them a sense of pride and self-worth.

Will be watching this thread, as I was actually thinking about this whole situation last night!!

I have always thought it would be cool to start up a similar organization here in the states, specifically in the city where I live. Someday if I have enough spare cash to buy some extra sewing machines, patterns, fabrics etc you might just find me doing so down at one of the several women's shelters we have here in town. I can see where sharing my hobby with others, especially others in need, could be a very rewarding thing.

I think providing sewing machines and materials to local shelters would be a good idea.
