American Community Survey from US Census Bureau

anyone else receive the American Community Survey from the US Census Bureau? "your response is required by law". i didn't think it was real, but apparently it is. it took 40 minutes to fill it out online. it went to random households. it asked questions about housing, mortgage cost, how i heat my house, how much electricity cost per month, my job, how i got to the job, how long it took to commute. asked about health insurance. the info is used to decide where to local new highways, schools, hospitals, etc. i guess i should be excited that i was chosen. i didn't feel it was invasive at all. it's confidential. so i did my civic duty and answered all questions.

I had not heard about the survey before, but I checked and found out about it. I did not get one, but we have had to fill out the long form of the census a couple of times and some of the information asked was very similar to what you talked about. The demographics information is very important to cities and states.

I only remember the US Census a couple of times.

That article was dated May of 2012, so apparently it was not eliminated....a dead issue now.

In 2000, I did the census. you had to take a test before being hired. Salary back then was about $18.75, if I remember well. It was fun because it was a between the other jobs, done at all hours of the day. That has probably gone along the wayside now, everything is computerized. Some people I had were short forms and some were long forms. I guess you got a long form.

Ha, ha. Didn't get that, but stopped doing business with my Electric company's co-horts that serviced things in my home. Too many personal questions. They said if I didn't give them this info, they might not be able to continue to do business with me. Right they were!!

Didn`t get one, and really glad, as I am more interested in our retirement insurance. I`m wondering if they have a spy in my house. We got a phone call be cause I missed 2 pills. ( really I was just late picking them up because hubby was ill) Any way they called and wanted to know if they could come out and help me remember to take them, with some kind of plan. I have them all in pill trays, don`t how they could do better. Then they called I should change to a diiferent pill, that I may like better than one I was taking ,and it may be cheaper! So I asked my Dr. and was told the ones they suggested may have more side effects. So I ordered them, but never found out about side effects, as they were very expensive and the ins. company didn`t cover them. I guess it was cheaper for them.

Haven't received it this year, but yes, I have received it TWICE! It is very lengthy. I too figured since I was selected I would do my civic duty, but the information asked for is very personal and specific.

I got that this year and I DID think it was invasive. Questions about what time you leave for work, how long it takes you to get there, how many hours a week you work, what your utility bills are, your house payment....when they have your address, and know what time you leave for work, it's almost like they are casing your house !!
And really, nothing seems to stay confidential any more !! At least we didn't have to put our SSN on it!!

Yes, over the years we've received that survey twice. I filled it out and mailed it back both times. When I get the phone calls about surveys, I decline.

mike'sgirl 02-27-2016 05:42 PM

I'm not so sure I would have filled it out. Notb!

somoquilter 02-27-2016 05:47 PM

I wouldn't fill out anything that intrusive. Most of that stuff is no one's business at all.
I would file it in the round file(garbage can). As far as the census, I tell them how many live here PERIOD.
