Am I the only one that has noticed a real increase in the number of flashing advertisements on this forum?

Advertisements are fine, but the flashing ones are very distracting and really detract from this forum. Admin????

jamh 09-09-2010 09:35 AM

I know I hate them!! If there about sewing it's fine, but other then that "GO AWAY"!!

sewmuchmore 09-09-2010 09:41 AM

I have not notice them at all. Must be the side effect of chemo brain. Well that about the only good thing I can say it

I agree. I guess there are some good points to having chemo brain (I'll be darned!!) :-)

Twilliebee 09-09-2010 09:54 AM

I haven't seen any of the flashing ones on this forum. Guess fibro-fog is good for something, too LOL

bearisgray 09-09-2010 09:55 AM

I ignore them when I see them.

Haven't noticed any of them today.

At least they are quiet!

luvTooQuilt 09-09-2010 09:59 AM

I don't see them either.. Huh, Guess Firefox blocks them..

kathy 09-09-2010 10:00 AM

while they may be distracting to some they provide the money to keep our board alive.

Me either
You all must be special folks

ckcowl 09-09-2010 10:22 AM

i've been here for a long time and have never had a flashing add of any kind...
maybe you need to adjust a setting with your virus protector to block pop-ups? seriously...ive been here for a couple years now and have never seen one of these...

I especially hate the ones with bugs!!

Jeanniejo 09-09-2010 10:36 AM

I haven't noticed them. Guess I have tunnel vision.

2wheelwoman 09-09-2010 10:57 AM

I haven't noticed them either, but I'm pretty good at blocking out all the non-board stuff while I'm here. We do need the advertisers to keep this great site going, so if they want to flash, it's OK by me.

dreamboat 09-09-2010 10:58 AM

What about those that the avatar is moving like some animal.
That is irritating to me.

Gramof6 09-09-2010 11:07 AM

I don't let it bother me one way or the other. Goodness if that was my only annoyance or gripe, I would have it made in the shade.LOL I also figure they help pay for this wonderful site we have. I can & will live with them. LOL

SuziC 09-09-2010 11:26 AM

I don't get any of those

ranger 09-09-2010 11:28 AM

I don't get the flashing ads. I have firefox so I guess that must block the ads.

bearisgray 09-09-2010 12:26 PM

There is so much good on this board, that what is mildly annoying and not really harmful to anyone, I try to ignore

raptureready 09-09-2010 01:11 PM

Personally I don't mind the moving things in peoples posts. I really don't like advertisements and the flashing ones are the worst but I think that quite possible selling advertizing space is what keeps this a free forum. Am I correct in assuming that or just computer illiterate?

lauriejo 09-09-2010 01:17 PM

Okay until this post I hadn't even noticed them, then realized there was one at the top of the page. I don't know if it is the fibro-fog or tunnel vision but I guess I have been blocking them out. The ones that bug are the ones that move across the page so you accidently click on them, fortunately I don't there are any of those on this board.

Up North 09-09-2010 02:01 PM

I also have firefox and do not get any adds on this site. What are you using that you get them?

Butterflyspain 09-09-2010 02:07 PM

I have been on this forum for 3 years and never ever seen flashing adverts. Perhaps as someone says you need to adjust your cookies or block something or other.

ptquilts 09-09-2010 02:17 PM

I have FF and don't see them - I also have AdBlock, HIGHLY recommend, esp. if you have dial up. Pages load a lot faster without Flash ads.

moonrise 09-09-2010 02:29 PM

A lot of times, you can press the ESC key and it'll stop the flashing/animations. It doesn't work 100% of the time, but it does help.

I use FireFox with AdBlock Plus, and don't see any ads at all, anywhere. :-)

Melinda in Tulsa 09-09-2010 02:30 PM

I haven't seen any flashing ad's either. I also use Firefox. Go figger

Rebecca VLQ 09-09-2010 05:15 PM

No flashers here...

grammyp 09-09-2010 05:17 PM

FireFox, no flashing ads!

stpatmom 09-09-2010 05:20 PM

i have been using an ipod touch to read the board a lot lately and i don't seem to not have any advertisements come through. i do see them on the computer though.

bjnicholson 09-09-2010 05:24 PM

I haven't seen them either. I know by computer put something on here, but I don't know what it is. As for the other ads, I have actually clicked on some and found them to be of help.

red roses 09-09-2010 06:31 PM

I see flashing ads when I'm on the board without being logged on.

lalaland 09-09-2010 06:42 PM

I've never gotten any flashing advertisements either.

Mimito2 09-09-2010 07:00 PM

Google ads at the bottom. I can live with them if it keeps us from having to pay to share our lives with each other. I have never seen any that are offensive. GREAT JOB ADMIN :) Also,
My 9yr old GS saw the headphone kitty avatar today and asked what kind of music he was listening to that made him wiggle his head and grin like that. debbieumphress please tell us so I can give him an answer.

QKO 09-10-2010 06:55 AM

I've seen flashers, scrollers, and all manner of stuff here. But it's not something the moderators can fix, it's really your fault in a way!

Let me explain; notice how those ads are strangely tuned to what your interests are? The ad space is displaying different for every user of this board, since ads are being put up there based on data gathered from your browsing habits. So if you, like me, spend time looking at motorcycle stuff, you'll see ads about motorcycle stuff. If you spend time online shopping for office supplies, you'll see ads for Staples online, etc...

That explains why some people see ads that flash and others don't.

Admin 09-10-2010 07:30 AM

You shouldn't see ads that are too distracting. Google has a policy that limits the amount of "flashiness" advertisers can use in their ads. But if you notice something over the top, then please send me a screenshot and the advertiser's domain name. I might be able to filter it out.

I really don't like advertisements and the flashing ones are the worst but I think that quite possible selling advertizing space is what keeps this a free forum. Am I correct in assuming that or just computer illiterate?
Yes. But more importantly, money raised through ads allows me to buy advertising in turn and attract new users here.
That's what fuels the growth of the board.

jbud2 09-10-2010 07:47 AM

Does she mean ads that appear on top of the Quilting board, or the ones at the bottom (or top)? I can't recall any of the ones at the bottom flashing. I used to get ads that stream across the screen but we did some hcanges to filter out that stuff.

I don't find the ads distracting at all. I understand the need for them.

Admin 09-10-2010 06:54 PM

If you see ads across the screen, then it's most likely adware on your computer. Such ads don't come from the board.

Bubblegum0077 09-10-2010 07:28 PM

I dont see them. my spam blocker is on....is yours? eating cheetos so i am henpecking
