Yes, I know -- sigh. BUT, I was just looking thru my "favorites" for all things I've seen in the past and liked. Ran across one site that I immediately thought "oh I made these back in the 70s and it's a cute idea, I'd love to make that to sell at the local bazaar"....WELL, her "copyright" said to NOT ever sell it - it's for personal use. Yeah, right. EXCEPT, her idea is NOT new!!!!! I made them in the 70s and off and on since...just had forgotten about them. And I remember getting the idea from a magazine.

So - if I decide to make them and sell them.....LOL -- I'll have to find proof that SHE violated a copyright pattern.....right??????

Just something to discuss......

You might have to come up with the magazine from the 70's as your proof that she violated someone else's copyrighted design. Just be sure to cover your bases.

What was the design, you have me curious now!

Interesting. Now I want to see the design.

I love reading about this topic. It confuses me and I really know nothing about it except, Do Not violate someone's Copyright. Which is why I have never made anything to sell. I'll be reading & hopefully be learning. Thanks for bringing this up.

I remember the 70's. Perhaps if you showed the pattern I might remember it. I'm sure others might also.

Me too.

I have come across some of these sites too, and have seen the same items made and sold many years ago, the same with quilt patterns. It may be new to them, as far as fabrics, but that is as far as it went  and their claim to copy right was pretty far fetched.

Post a picture or a rough sketch and I'm sure somebody here will help you.

That is a pet peeve of mine! Just because an individual has not knowingly seen a pattern before does not mean it is their property! One pattern I have seen this done with is the Mock Cathedral Window, renewed as many other names, with many people claiming copyrights. Tipsy Log Cabins have been renamed, too

Okay -- I hope I'm not getting myself in trouble here....but here's the "design". http://mousechirpy-polkadotpineapple...christmas.html

the only difference between this one and the one I made are the leaves. I made them by sewing two pieces of fabric together and turning....and not with the white border.

And as for finding the magazine -- oh, my......I've moved probably 6 times since then....and downsized MAJOR...I KNOW I don't have the pattern book anymore.

And what's to say someone else didn't come up with the idea....and had never seen her page???????? I know...lawyers...
