I have seen that many times and cry every time I read it. Emma S . I didn't even wait 6 weeks. Daisy was sent to me in just one week by my little guy I just know it. She is different from him in so many way but she is my constant companion and she gives me a reason to get out of bed in the morning. I still miss him dreadfully but having her makes it a little easier.

That is wonderful. They need all the help they can get.. I know if I had my own place I would have at least one more dog. as it is I am only allowed one .. Since my brothers step daughter has a big dog and 2 cats.

Tears here. We just lost our 1st rescued dog last Friday. My heart is aching for my husband who is struggling with the loss of his pal of 13 yrs. We have 2 more rescues in our lives but Ranger was pretty special.

The floodgates opened here too! I just lost my Jimmy 3 weeks ago from very rapid onset CHF that did not respond to treatment. He was 14. I'm going to be looking for a new companion to "rescue" me VERY soon.

After our 17 yr old poodle died that we had since he was 8 weeks old- there was a 6 year void of which I couldn't get another animal (Sherlock dying just broke my heart, and whom I still miss) .. Then one day we were at the Roice Hurst no kill shelter here and I saw her .. She is my avatar- I am so glad she rescued me from a life of loneliness and not having another animal in my heart .. thank you for sharing this lovely story- I printed it on velum and going to frame it. maybe even make her a quilt out of dog material with those words on it .. Thank you !

This is so true-we just adopted a fur baby from PawsSafe here in CT. She is the sweetest, most loving and I am so glad we added her to our family.

Our other fur babies now have a new friend!

I know exactly what you're talking about, Emma. We had to have our beloved Yankee put down in October. We both were crushed, seriously crushed (tho we knew we'd "done the right thing"). We agreed to get another dog (a small adult dog) come spring (who wants to start out with a new dog in a WI winter, right?). But I very soon found myself sneaking peeks at Petfinder (we just get rescues) & by Thanksgiving, we both agreed that we'd get a new dog as soon as one "spoke to us". Well, Leo spoke to us... a 10-month-old Lab/Bassett hound mix. So, no small adult dog in the spring... a puppy in the winter. Thank goodness it was a warm winter... LOL! But we'd have braved sub-zero weather for Leo. We adore him. Did he "take Yankee's place"? No. He wasn't intended to. I still miss Yankee every day. But I have my darling Leo (who is in the process of throwing himself against the back door so I'll come let him back in) & we wouldn't trade him for all the money in the world!
