Tell him he will have to wait to come over when your husband is home, and that you want to go thru the bag before you refund his money.

The only thing I have ever bought from Craigslist was my daybed, and pretty much had to meet them at their house, lol. We went to look at it, and the mattresses it came with, left half as a deposit, got a receipt for that, and then came back with a truck on the weekend. THey helped us to load it, and then...came out and gave us two sets of sheets and a comforter that had not even been included in the ad....so I did good. But I am really leary of CL offers. Be careful.

jbj137 09-16-2011 08:38 AM

Do not give the money back.
You did not misrepresent the boxes.

I have bought on CL and not disappointed.
I did buy 1 item on EB and not what was
advertised, but I kept it anyway.

He'll be here any time. We'll see if he leaves all the items or just takes the money. I'm not having anything to do with him. It's not worth it.

I'm safe inside, door locked with my dog:>

Again....it's all well and good to meet at a neutral spot in the future for this kind of thing. But, large items and sewing machines have to be tested in the home:< I won't buy another sewing machine on someone's "word" again!

Kappy 09-16-2011 09:04 AM

Please post back again after this scum bag has picked up his cash ( and not left the fabric...I am soooo jaded) so that we know you are safe.

Owllady 09-16-2011 09:49 AM

I would say as is, its yours. Bought and paid for. Now live with it. If he looked through it, he must have liked something in there. I have never heard of having to give back his money. Make a report with the police, sheriff or whoever and I would not return his money. That's just me.

Get a new email address specifically for CL. I'm getting all kinds of crazy emails inquiring about my items. If I answer back, they now have my real email address and I get tons of spam!

The following is an email I got after I told him my item was still available:
"Thanks for your reply concerning my inquiry. I am quite comfortable
with the price and condition, I will also add $50 to your asking price
that is for you to hold it for me, Please provide your full name,
Address and your Phone number so that I can send your payment.
I will be paying you by Check. The payment will be mail
as priority express mail which you will receive next day,As for delivery,I will
make arrangements for the pick-up after you have received the payment. If this
meets your approval, kindly get back to me as soon as possible, with your name,
phone # and mailing address where payment will be sent to, so that I
can have my
assistant get the Check and mail it to you.
Note: As soon as you have your money in hand, we can talk about the
picking up of the item. I would like you to take the posting off
craigslist today.
Best Regards.

WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mitchell Graye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAS to be the same Mitchell Graye (sometimes spelled Gray) who responds to resumes listed on line. Sends out these offers of employment that he needs a personal assistant, who he will only communicate with by internet or "the occasional phone call". The job description is very sketchy and of course, as part of applying to be his personal assistant he needs just a bit of information about the applicant.

WOW if that doesn't stink of identity theft I don't know what does.

Candace 09-16-2011 10:14 AM

UPDATE:::::

Well, he came, took the money and left everything. I went through it all quickly but didn't see anything missing.

In the future I will post on my ads in clear letters NO REFUNDS I'M NOT YOUR LOCAL BIG BOX STORE.

He's wasted a lot of my time and energy and I'm not going to allow someone to have that power over me again for a few bucks!

Anyhoo....it's over and I'm still alive and safe thanks for worrying about me:>

Owllady 09-16-2011 10:20 AM

So proud that you are safe. In this wicked old world one never knows.

nativetexan 09-16-2011 11:31 AM

Wow. me too!!

A man answered the ad, came here and looked through several of the bags, seemed nice and gave me the money.

I get a rude e-mail telling me he wants his money back tomorrow because he should have looked through it better and it's garbage that he can't make anything out of. I specified it was yardage and scraps and he looked at it here.... I told him I'd refund his money IF I was home tomorrow but I'm not waiting around for him.

Now I'm worried he'll vandalize my house or whatever. It really is a very good idea to meet people so they don't know where you live. :< And now I have to deal with all this over $25. So not worth it!

I bet he took stuff out of the box! And I would not refund the money. He came and looked at it. And knew exactly what he was buying. No way would I refund him!

And yes, you are right about meeting them in a public place so they don't know where you live.

I didn't see this post when I posted. So glad things are alright now. And glad you told us so we all can learn from this experience.

annthreecats 09-16-2011 11:56 AM

Sorry you had to go through this. What a scary situation. I would have done the same thing, returned his money and gotten my stuff returned, that way you are rid of that craziness.

I only gave away one thing on CL and it was leftover wood from my building my fence and deck. I couldn't haul all of it to a neutral spot so I had my daughter with me while the guy loaded it up. He was going to use it for a tree house for his sons. He was really happy with it. You have to be careful with folks nowdays.

megs0863 09-16-2011 12:11 PM

Just recently, I posted an ad on CL and two separate responses with regular sounding names replied with the words "I would like to find out more about your product". I never responded back. Too weird.

Tell him to meet you at the police station instead, if he wants his money that is.

katyquilter 09-16-2011 05:54 PM

glad he returned your items. Hope he doesn't bother you again. Stay safe.

I have gotten 2 or 3 of these same identical emails regarding stuff I was selling. It is a scam. Don't ever give any of your information out on something like this.

Lets hope he does not come back for mischief later on. Do you have neighbors who can help keep an eye on you and your place for a few weeks or so? Hopefully that is the last of him.

Double-agree with this!! DO NOT LET HIM IN THE HOUSE! even if it is pouring down rain-storm! Do you have a male friend to be on hand when this guy comes back, also maybe take a "phone-photo" of his license plate? It is a weirdos-world.

skjquiltnut 09-17-2011 12:15 PM

Sorry, fired off response before I read all the Postings

this was my thought. why does he have to have his money back if he took the time to go through it first.

I don't think you do have to have a return policy like Walmart. I don't think you have to have a return policy at all. Most places say--"no returns "

Spuddy 09-27-2011 06:07 AM

Whenever we sell a small item on Craig's list, we meet in a neutral place. Good luck.
