Ever get to thinking that you'll never catch up?
Well, I was told, not asked..ok, maybe she did ask, but I'm doing it anyway....
I have to make 2 Christening Gowns for the grandbabies. So, off to the local store I go. The ladies in there are just the sweetest. I walk out with $80 worth of fabric and lace and the pattern to make these. Oh, they want them done the end of Feb. Anyone see a problem with this?
Ok, I'm maybe just venting............

Deecee 01-13-2010 10:55 PM

But won't you be so proud when you see your grandbabies wearing their beautiful gowns at their Christening.

G-Maw Wilda 01-13-2010 10:57 PM

What we do for our kids and grandbabies. Just think how sweet they will be in their Christening gowns that were handmade by their grandma. Then they can pass them on to their children.

Are you going to be there for their Christening?

k3n 01-14-2010 12:32 AM

Oh Terri! 'Bon courage' my friend! But just imagine how beautiful they'll be! Can't do much to help but send you cyber supportive hugs - and I KNOW you'll keep us posted with pics, right? :-D

I think it would be an honor to make the christening gowns for your twin grandbabies. I know the time frame is short, but if you think about what this will mean to their parents, and to them as time goes by, and to their children too...
I offered to make a christening gown for my granddaughter who was born nearly a year ago. My daughter and son-in-law very politely said no. The reason was that my son-in-law had a christening gown in his family that was made for his great-grandfather, then passed down to his grandfather, then to his father, then to him and now to his daughter. The gown was beautiful--all hand-made lace, and hand-sewn. An heirloom that is still being used, and I believe will be for my granddaughter's children too.
Just think, you could be the one making the christening gowns for your great-great grandchildren. Oh--I wish I could have had that honor...

Poor Terri!
Wait....... um, the Terri we all know and love isn't so shy and retiring that she doesn't know how to say "NO", so I guess that even though you're under the gun, deadline wise, you're really thrilled to be such an important part of such an important event, right!!??

Of course, this is the same Terri who said she couldn't possibly do an IRR this time because of her impending move. So what happens? Yep, you guessed it: She's doing TWO CENTERS! ROFLMAO.

Now, Gramma, don't forget how fast they are growing when you take the size into account. Nothing would be worse than to make them and then have them be too small! And I know that they are growing like weeds from all the good loving that gramma is giving them.

Can't wait to see the finished products on the little darlings! Good sewing!

You should have no problem doing these in time. I would break down the steps into 25 or 20 minute chucks of work and work a little on them each day. I loved making my little granddaughter's christining gown a while back. It was quite plain but I loved working with my twin needle. See it here.

Best of luck and enjoy those babies.

Bevanger 01-14-2010 06:28 AM

Ahhhhh but I bet they'll look SUPER adoreable in there gowns. ;-)

Marcia 01-14-2010 06:33 AM

Terri--you can do it! I made a Christening gown for my oldest granddaughter in under a week----and I hand-smocked and hand-embroidered it!! Oh, and it had a matching slip, too.

yes, I agree.

sharon b 01-14-2010 07:52 AM

Oh Terri you are like the little Enigne" You can do it ! You can do it !" We wll be here cheering you on all the way ! And like others have said a new family heirloom in the making
On a side note, when I was pregnant YEARS ago, my mom hand crocheted a christening gown for my baby. It took her 6 months, as I didn't know about it til it was almost finished. Both my boys used it and most of my neices and nephews have also been baptized in it. It is now "our" family heirloom. My mom also gave me the blanket that all of "us( her children" were wrapped in for our christening .
It will make for wonderful stories down the road for the twins. Maybe take pictures and make a journal to go with the gowns so that future generations will have the full story! LOL
Relax it will all be fine

Harmony 01-14-2010 09:04 AM

If anyone can do it, you can! And, of course, you KNOW we want to see pictures!

amma 01-14-2010 11:00 AM

Go Terri!!! Go Terri!!! You CAN do it!!! :D:D:D

Jim's Gem 01-14-2010 11:04 AM

That will be so special!! You can do it Terri!!!!

sharon b 01-14-2010 03:32 PM

Well it has been the better part of a day.... are you done yet ? LOL ***ducking as Terri throws things at me***

MadQuilter 01-14-2010 05:31 PM

Most religions that christen the newbees usually want to do so relatively soon after birth and you DO want the gowns to still fit, raaaaaiiiiight??????? With 6 weeks to spare, that should be a breeze for you. (Cracking myself up because for once, it's not me who's in the pickle barrel)

Wishing you speedy fingers, Terri!

tlrnhi 01-15-2010 10:39 PM

Thanks for the encouraging words.
I'll get them done, I know, just had to whine for a minute.
I've made a Christening Gown before, was a bugger for my Godchild.
Lauren and Donny aren't baptizing the babies, they are being dedicated. I don't know what that means, but Lauren says it's like a blessing. No clue.....I was brought up Protestant(Congregational) then converted to Catholisism about 15 years ago. Both girls were raised Catholic, but Lauren has fallen away, but has attended non-denomination churches, which is fine, at least she is going, right?
Ok, didn't mean to start something on religion, could get ugly when religion and politics is discussed.

But I digress.......I'll get the gowns done and no, I won't be here or it. They are doing it the end of Feb and I don't have the money to fly back for it. Lauren says they could wait until we all get back here in June, but I told her it was up to her

sharon b 01-16-2010 12:17 PM

No problem about whining, that is what we are here for  And when you whine , we encourage you  Because we know you can do it and do it well  And everyone needs to vent when they are put under the gun  LOL

littlehud 01-16-2010 09:54 PM

I bet they will be beautiful when they are done. We just can't say no.

tlrnhi 01-18-2010 09:16 AM

Oh, Lauren found a gown online that has smocking and all sorts of other fru-fru stuff on it. She says...MOOOOM! Come see this, can you do this to the gowns? OMG!
I told her that if she wants them to look good, then the smocking has to stay away. Of course I CAN do smocking with my machine, I have the foot for it and all the directions, but I'm not comfortable doing it.
So, I told her, she is getting them the way I make them.
Oh, I need a nap, sooo badly, but we are headed to Columbus today and I'm going to Joanns, so nap will have to wait. Fabric is more important lol

sharon b 01-18-2010 09:36 AM

But...But...But ... as a Mom your are a miracle worker !  Dontcha know  LOL
KIDS... gotta love them
Buy lots of fabric so you can have it for the pebble
Give the babies {{{{{HUGS & KISSES}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
