Another question about digital quilting magazine subscriptions......

Are all digital magazines downloadable?

I got the Quilter's World digital subscription and was able to download not only the current issue, but all of their archived issues through 2006. (This was about 48 magazines for $16 -- a pretty good deal!)

It's not clear to me if other digital magazines can be downloaded, and others don't seem to mention any access to downloading back issues. Anyone know how AQS handles this? Fons and Porter? Any others? (I am not interested in Quiltmaker.)

Interesting that you should ask today! I was going to post about this too. I have Quilter's World and love it. But...someone mentioned that there is an article and pattern from McKenna Ryan in the April 2013 issue of American Patchwork &Quilting. Went there, excited, and was going to sub to their digital issue and buy the one issue with that article. Decided to just get the one issue. Turned out it wasn't a pdf like Quilter's World but is through Zinio, a "company" that I'd recently discovered is also at my local library where I can get free issues of various magazines. I'd signed up there but hadn't looked at any of them. I'm still a little confused about how it works but apparently I have a "library" at their site where my magazines are. Opened the APQ one I'd bought and it's in a format I DON'T like. Have checked out a couple of other mags with that app or whatever it is and found it hard to navigate. Also discovered that if I want to print out an article or pattern, it will only do a two-page spread at a time.

At this point I'm disappointed and feel like "give me my money back" and I'll try to find the paper version. Also it apparently doesn't download to MY computer, have to go to their site to read it. I bought it....I want it on MY computer! This happened Sat so I thought I'd call their customer service this week and ask some questions. I don't understand why they chose this format for it.

Re F&P, I have their paper subscr (DD renews it ea yr for Xmas--prob no more tho) and haven't yet tried accessing the digital edition which I'm supposed to have access to also. I've had trouble in the past trying to access their videos and more with not very good support so am more than a little put out with them now.

Would like to know if anyone else has worked with the Zinio mag issues and how you liked them? I'd be very happy if they all did them like Quilter's World does! Oh....I got both of Jenny's mags/books digital and they download like Quilter's World and are fine.

That's kind of what I was afraid of. If I buy a digital magazine, I want to be able to download it to MY hard drive. Having such a good experience with Quilter's World, I had hopes I could develop my own personal library on the computer and finally get rid of my hundreds of back issues of different quilting mags. I love them, but they take up too much space, weigh too much, and it's too hard to locate a pattern when I want one. But then I started checking out other websites and I didn't see any mention of an ability to download the digital issues. I am loving the Quilter's World pdfs because I can separate out the pages of a pattern and save just that pattern separately for when I need it.

Someone else had mentioned Zinio, so think I will check that out via the library.

I'm interested in some of the Fons and Porter mags, but really don't want to invest money in something I won't like.
