Hubby and I are planning on redoing our master bath with next year's income tax. New counters, paint, cedar lined closet (maybe) and possibly a new toilet. Master bedroom is getting a new paint job too.

Question is.......
Anyone have a Bidet seat?

no, we had one in a house we owned and I turned it into a planter!

Please do some homework on bidets, one thing I read recently said they are not a good thing for women.

Never had one or even tried one.

They are nice but if you want warm water you will need an electrical outlet near the bidet. I would not put a toilet and separate bidet in my bathroom, takes up too much room. You might consider a toilet with a bidet conversion kit installed on it. Again you will need electricity for warm water. If you don't like it you can just take the bidet part off and go back to your original toilet.

They're becoming more and more popular in the newer built and remodeled homes.

I think they area natural thing to have, if you have males in the house

A bidet is not something on my list of wants but I highly recommend installing a toilet that is a bit higher than the usual one. Not a true handicapped one as those are quite expensive but one that is taller than usual. Time or perhaps injury or surgery can take away being able to get up from that. It may take away the need for installing a grab bar on the wall or extra assistive devices in the future.

they have those auto toilets that shut the seat and lid after use!!! I also don't like bidets. or hot tubs!!

We have a "higher" Mansfield toilet with a "Church seat" (not sure why they are different brands).

We installed the higher toilets in our renovation inside the house. The shop bath, which is accessible for those outside since we live on a lake, is a standard height. All our older friends like the taller seats.

I'd skip the bidet, but definitely go for the higher toilet as it is better for your body.

I think we will look into that brand. My knees could use some help......:)

After discussing this thread with hubby last night. We decided against a Bidet and look for a "nicer throne" than the least expensive one already in the master bath. We are doing a cedar lined closet on two walls and sealing them really well (I am allergic to cedar). And as for the counter tops we want to replace those and keep the cabinets since the are really nice looking.

In the master bedroom, hubby wants to have our son re-tape some spots where the drywall people did a poor job, we can see the seams and along the edge of the ceiling where it meets the wall nail "shiners" can be seen. "Shiners" are where the nail shows through where two pieces of material (wood mainly). My husband was a Contractor before he retired and notices things like this. Kinda like me an upholstered furniture, I can spot flaws in the work.

Oh, and carpeting with memory foam padding......its heaven to walk on.

years ago our neighbor installed his own version of a urinal in the living room near the easy chair for the old man across the street. It was VERY inexpensive.... He drilled a hole in the floor and ran a hose to the basement drain. On the top end he had a big funnel stuck in said hose held up by hose clamps duct tape and a cup hook.

That is hilarious. I hope the fellow using it had good aim!!

You know it is just as likely that old *guy* just kept the hose and funnel in his easy chair and never got up all day... Well maybe to the refrigerator...

I've used bidets in Europe and used a Toto seat bidet at a restaurant. Maybe you could find a restaurant near you so you could try it. I was really impressed by how well it worked and how comfortable it was. When I update my bathroom, I'm going to put in one of those. Really helpful for many obvious reasons.

I like the idea but I don't have an electric supply close by. I think if I built a house I would put one in.

Doesn't sealing the cedar defeat the purpose of a cedar lined closet?

Yes, we like the beauty of the wood far more than the bug beating benefits.

Re the urinal...nearby neighbors had a urinal installed in the (very small) basement of their (equally small) house in what could be referred to as the 'man cave'. When they listed the house for sale a while back, they listed the house as having 1.5 bathrooms! Apparently a urinal on the wall constituted a 'half bath'!

As to the bidet...no desire here. If for no other reason, I'd not want to take up that much floor space for a separate unit. I've seen some combo units, that, if the bidet is your preference, would be a far better choice - in my opinion.

I have the chair height one, love it. It took me a few days to get used to it. Now when I go to my daughters I feel like I'm falling. I have problems with my back and this helps a lot. For some reason, its easier to keep clean than the normal one. I paid under 100 so that was great too.
