My guess would be a pie edge crimper

nope - I have a Foreman grill and that's not his scraper

jitkaau 07-13-2012 05:15 AM

It looks like something to decorate the edge of a pie pastry.

delma_paulk 07-13-2012 05:23 AM

Think its to measure your spaghetti noodles before cooking???

Tudey 07-13-2012 05:46 AM

It looks like a frosting comb...you use it to make lines or wavy patterns on a cake

This is correct. My aunts used them to go around the cake making it wavy on the sides. If I am wrong then they invented that use for them.

Neesie you crack me up. I really needed a good chuckle this morning. Thank you!

I sold Tupperware in the 80s and never saw it before. But I was thinking it would be a great template for making slippers for your duck. :)

joyce j 07-13-2012 06:07 AM

is it to make the edge of pie scalps? joyce j

MadamPolo 07-13-2012 06:12 AM

It's a shoe tree for your duck's shoes. Can't let them get misshapen.

sewmom 07-13-2012 06:12 AM

I have seen that gadget before but couldn't remember what it was for. Painting your nails makes sense, and it looks like it would work for draining water from a can of veggies. But by far I love the artificial foot and slipper pattern for ducks ideas!

Is is something to help flute piecrust with?

Shayvian 07-13-2012 06:46 AM

If I had it, I'd use it for a quilt template. I almost agree it has something to do with icing.

ptquilts 07-13-2012 06:46 AM

Painting your nails makes me think of the "As seen on TV" gadgets where they want to sell you a gadget to solve a "Problem" you don't really have, like straining pasta. On the ad they are making a mess trying to strain cooked pasta in the sink - "How many times has this happened to you?'" Um well, never. I know how to strain pasta.

I also know how to paint my nails without using any gadgets. But I guess the "gee whiz" factor triumphs again!!

That's IT for sure!

Yes, yes, yes!!!! For a duck quilt, right? It could be the modern day answer to Bear Paw! :)

Karen G 07-13-2012 07:22 AM

to measure a serving of spagetti put it through the hole (uncooked)

Karen G 07-13-2012 07:24 AM

and then use it to strain the cooked pasta, see, enough heads can figure it out!

Nina Baker 07-13-2012 07:48 AM

It looks like a "thing" to keep your nails seperated when you polish them. lol

sewsewchickie 07-13-2012 08:50 AM

My mother-in-law had one of these. She got hers through some county fair. It is supposed to help "flute" the edges of a pie crust. You lay it horizontal along the edge of the pie and press your dough in the curves, giving you same size, same distance on your pie crust. Not sure what the big hole was to be used for. Guess I'm too much like my mom---- Good cooks don't need contraptions like that to pretty up a pie!

honeybea 07-13-2012 09:40 AM

I was thinking the same...Perhaps you put your thumb in the hole and swirl it around the outside of the frosted cake to make ridges, like pastry chefs do...?????

Dakota Girl 07-13-2012 10:25 AM

It looks like a duck's foot, how many toes does a duck have? I would certainly use it to swirl frosting. I use the tip of a
teaspoon now and do one swirl at a time. Using the "thing" would be faster and more uniform in size.

crtwelvecats 07-13-2012 10:30 AM

I have one too. Got it along time ago from a party. I have it in my nail stuff and used it for nails but really don't need it. It isn't even enough to be much good at the frosting things cause it curves. I agree about the orange peelers though they were great. I've seen them in stores now but before you had to attend a tupperware party to get them. Tupperware parties were the great thing on military base housing back then.

Morag 07-13-2012 10:32 AM

Don't know what use it is intended for, but the hole may be there so it can be hung on a hook between uses?????

Prism99 07-13-2012 11:24 AM

I would drag it across some frosting and see what the effect is.

Roberta 07-13-2012 11:38 AM

I think I've seen those used to frost the sides of cakes with a wavy design.

fred singer 07-13-2012 11:51 AM

I think that the forman grill scapper cleaners are more straight across

the duck foot would make a cute quilt top maybe you could use it for mother goose trail of nursery rhymes

I can'tfind my old nursery rhyme book any more sure use to read them to my boys as childern

sewnsew 07-13-2012 12:09 PM

I think you hold it on the edge of a pie crust to crimp it all around. You push the crust into the indentation to make that wavy edge.

deb8746 07-13-2012 01:27 PM

I think it was sued for doing your nails. you wrapped syour fingers over it and they would not touch unstil sthey were dry

fmhall2 07-13-2012 01:34 PM

It is for keeping your fingernails separated while you are polishing them. They used to be quite popular. I'm not sure if they came from Tupperware or not. Just don't remember.

sept97 07-13-2012 02:16 PM

I found it
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TUPPERWARE-N...item19d2df534b

ptquilts 07-13-2012 02:19 PM

well both guesses were right -- from the auction page-
"An indispensable tool fits in your hand comfortably

makes giving yourself a manicure easy and neat

might work for decorating cake icing too"

Pickle 07-13-2012 02:30 PM

I think it is for painting your toe nails to keep the from touching each other.lol

Annaquilts 07-13-2012 04:40 PM

I so do not need this gadget but if I ever run acros one for free I might keep all its alternative uses in mind especially the one to measure spagheti and aid to ducks in need of artificial feet.

Latrinka 07-13-2012 06:57 PM

Ain't that sumpin!

How about putting your fingers in the "grooves", your thumb in the round hole and painting your nails? Or, like one of you said, maybe it is a foot for a lame duck.
If anyone knows, please tell us.

Your memory bank is FINE!!
that is exactly what it is for. There were tons of them around at one time but some people found them akward to use.

DonnaJ 07-13-2012 07:23 PM

Well, even if you don't find out what it is really for, now you have all these other ideas you can use. I like the duck foot suggestion-you could make a bear paw/duck foot/log cabin quilt!

Aminnie 07-13-2012 07:35 PM

You put your thumb through the bottom hole and your fingers over the top in the dips, and you use it to paint your fingernails. I use to have one, brought back memories.

captlynhall 07-13-2012 07:45 PM

When I first saw it I was thinking Tupperware's version of brace knuckles.

sew_Tracy 07-13-2012 07:51 PM

that was fun!
