Any idea what these are?
 

I was cleaning out a box from my mothers home that had my Grandmother's items in it. Among a variety of interesting items, I found these wooden tools. They are about 3 1/2 inches long and were in the bottom of a Hankie box. My thoughts have included sewing implements, tatting (but I don't really think they are) or even tools for leather gloves. Anyone have an idea??

Agree, not for tatting.

If you think your Grandmother may have made leather gloves, to me that would be a good guess!
I can see that each of them could be good pushers for turning the fingers out and making the seams smooth against the fingers.

Just an educated guess .... and thinking they resemble the type of tools we would use when turning a piece of fabric and pushing out the corners.

Now I'm curious as to how close to the guess, I am!

They definitely look like "turners" to me... point turners and blunt turners. The glove fingers makes sense.

well so far I haven't found any images of glove turners or old wooden turners that look like those. Hmmmmm.

Definitely some similarities!
Though there are also similarities to garden dibbers or dibblers .... though I think these are too short, too fine and too clean to have been used in that way.

here's a thought--with a large ring, they would be wonderful as fasteners on a shawl, a scarf, or even to put hair up with.

I think there are too many sharp-ish points to be used for gloves.....but I have no idea what they were used for.

Maybe they were used for manipulating and or decorating pie crust.........just a thought.

My guess is cake decorating tools for making flowers and leaves out of gum paste.

Any ideas on what she did for a living or what her hobbies were or if she had really long hair?

Ohhhh THnaks DianeH ....I never even thought about Cake decorating!My Great Grand father was a baker. I did think of clay because my mom was an artist but she did not do clay until she was much older and these were not hers.

Wouldn't they need to be sharp for leather punch?

Agree plus I believe you said that they were wooden.
I don't think wood, would be strong enough to withstand punching through leather.

Similarly though, there were links that showed similar items used on fabric.
I am thinking "primitive' button holers .... punching/pushing through the fabric to make button holes.
Then the pushers/turners for turning tubes and pushing out corners.

Maybe try some googles for antique baking tools and see if you find something.
Especially when you do know that your Great Grandfather was a batke.
The "star" type tool doesn't seem to fit for much, other than baking.
Maybe a star design in plain cookie? Or as already suggested for cake decorating?

Back to the gloves where you started ... was someone in your family a glove maker?
And why you had considered this possibility?
We had talked before about them potentially being turners ... some could maybe even be used for blocking/shaping parts of the glove, leather or cotton.

My Grandfather's Father was a baker with a shop in Pawtucket RI in the late 1800s. I have all of his decorating tips and recipes but have had them for ages as they were in my mothers kitchen. These were obviously manufactured (not roughly hand made) and have a wonderful patina and feel. After some thought I think these came out of a small wooden cigar box not the hankie box (I was unceremoniously dumping things out to see what was in each - lol) and were with things like button hooks and other odd ball things. I am guessing that little cigar box originated from my Grandfathers bureau.

Thank you all for your input - I am pretty confident I now know what they are.

My guess was that they were bobbins for hand made lace.
