Re alcoholic liver failure and billirubin count of 35.... I realize of course that this isn't a good situation, but I haven't been able to find any detailed info online.... is this a sign that death is imminent? How long are we talking - hours, days?

I am not a nurse or doctor but I googled your question and this website came up. I hope it helps.

Thanks, I did read this already, but the timeline wasn't clear to me.

I believe her eyes would have to be yellow at this point. I'd rather not think about it.

http://www.hepatitis.org/hepatalcool_angl.htm

there are alot of factors involved:Age,sex etc..
and wether they are still drinking and what they are drinking.

we had a female friend who died from this. she drank herself to death, with beer. had a husband and kids in grade school.
not only were her eyes yellow, but she was yellow.orange. i was shocked when i saw how bad she had gotten. this was 20 years ago. she would not stop drinking.
although no one can predict when it will kill someone..she lived about 6 months. it was so sad. her daughter thought her mom didn't love her enough to quit drinking.
i am so sorry you have this to deal with.

I knew a woman who died from this but she was not a heavy drinker.

Ok, so high bilirubin in itself won't be what does it. As long as she's in icu, she's not drinking. If she happens to survive this though, and goes home.... well, I have no reason to believe that she won't continue. No one has been able to get her to accept help.

But if she is that bad will they even send her home ? It is kind of complicated, but my sister-in-laws brother was married and his wife had a similiar issue and after she was out of the ICU they sent her to hospice. She couldn't go home . Do they have hospice where they are located ?

I don't know... they are kind of in the middle of nowhere by Edwards Airforce base in CA....
