get your pumpkins early, there might not be enough to go around

Now that the kids have all moved out I just bought a fake one from Walmart. Can use it year after year.

LoriEl 09-27-2011 08:10 AM

My DBF grew me a pumpkin!

Heard about it last night. Heard about the peanut crop also. If we don't get rain soon there will be a lot of shortages I'm afraid.

Peckish 09-27-2011 08:28 AM

We carved the real pumpkins when the kids were small. Now my youngest is 10 and they prefer to carve the foam kind you get at the craft stores.

TacoMama 09-27-2011 08:28 AM

Haven't heard of this.

charity-crafter 09-27-2011 08:32 AM

Too much rain caused the pumpkins to rot on the vines, at least in our area.

JenniePenny 09-27-2011 08:43 AM

Wow, good to know. I just bought 7 pumpkins this weekend. Would have bought more too, except they didn't have any little garden wagons for me to use, so I had to carry and purchase two at a time and take them to my car. I like to make a nice display with them.

QUILTNMO 09-27-2011 08:50 AM

yes saw it on news but they say va has a good crop this year

feline fanatic 09-27-2011 09:08 AM

In our area the flooding from Irene and Lee wiped out entire crops and not just pumpkins either. It is devastating and heartbreaking.

mimom 09-27-2011 09:14 AM

I want one of those white pumpkins, I hated them when I first saw them a couple of years ago, but now I love them.

Zhillslady 09-27-2011 09:42 AM

I did but then Publix (grocery store) loaded them in the stores and they are $1 less than last year. $5.99 for a very nice size.

quiltsRfun 09-27-2011 09:45 AM

Not again! Last year we couldn't find canned pumpkin anywhere. And pumpkin pie is one of my favorites.

valsma 09-27-2011 09:45 AM

Last year was the first time I carved a pumpkin in a number of years. I only did that because it fell when the grandson and grand daughter were going to be here. I just don't get as thrilled by Halloween like I used to, and it is my favorite holiday. I think it is the take down afterward that does it.

BellaBoo 09-27-2011 09:52 AM

The pumpkin patch fields here are full of pumpkins all sizes. I guess it depends on where you live and if you are able to go to the source to buy. If there is a bad crop most markets may not get very many pumpkins to sell. Oh, My dog loves canned pumpkin and the vet said it was excellent for her to eat for a treat.

MrsM 09-27-2011 09:52 AM

I bought one and made 2 pies. They are gone already.

redquilter 09-27-2011 09:54 AM

That was said for last year also but we had no problems. Perhaps in certain areas.

DebraK 09-27-2011 10:17 AM

It ain't happening in my area. They're everywhere.

blueangel 09-28-2011 08:12 AM

Yes I guess it's what part of the country you live in.

PatchGirl 09-28-2011 08:19 AM

I know a year ago there was a shortage on commercial/canned Pumpkin in TN at the holidays! The shelves were bare down to 3 cans at Thanksgivig and the store clerk told me they wouldn't be getting anymore, so I was fortunate to get a can.
