She is pretty. I know a lot of people who are.

Cute! I have in the past but not for a few years now.

My 6 year old granddaughter wanted a cape. I have red satin for some reason, but she wanted black. And with a hood, and 'fancy closer at the neck that is easy to close.' And an "I" on the right hand side - her initial! I bought some black satin fabric, had a fancy gold button and black elastic for the 'closer' but the 'I' had me stumped. I was going to cut out a red "I' and fuse it on but it just reminded me too much of 'the Scarlet Letter.' So I fused a black I on a red eye and fused and appilqued it to the cape. She loved it! She put it on and floated around the house and then settled in the living room. I snuck up on her and heard her planning some adventures!

Costumes for grandchildren

KathyM 10-25-2013 04:50 AM

I made my granddaughters - Snow White, Tinkerbelle and Cinderella. They were very excited with there costumes.

tildiemae 10-25-2013 06:17 AM

I made a puppy, a rainbow and today Minnie Mouse. This has been my tradition for my kids and now grand kids. It's always fun to do.

I've been hunting for a pic of the costume I made for my son in Kindergarten. He was the magic carpet from Aladdin. It turned out so cute. I fashioned it from 2 purple bath towels adorned with tassels and I think I made the scribing from felt. I've got to find that pic.

I'm in that sweet spot of having grown and not yet married kids. Some day I will get to do this again with grand babies. No hurry ;/

Not this year, I really miss doing it!!!

My husband and I used to make costumes for my son every year (space man with lights, oxygen pack to carry candy in, tin man using dryer ducting, hercules (he called himself Percules). He is now 17 so we don't get to do it anymore. It's kind of sad, like the end of an era. He is, however, doing a zombie walk tomorrow so I'll at least get to help him with that.

I made my DGD a Rapunzel costume last year. She helped decorate the braided hair (yarn). It's been a number of years since I have sewed clothing. That dress is 3 dresses in one. Her teacher wanted to buy it from my DDIL for her daughter. Smart girl, she said "No".

Love your Rapunzel! And that's not easy fabric to work with! I did a Jasmine costume for my daughter when she was maybe 7. I thought I'd die before I finished that one. I really have to find my pics.

I'm in the process of stitching a Barney Costume for my two year old granddaughter. She has all her mom's old Barney videos and toys and is absolutely in love with it all. I've never had a Barney lover before.

I made costumes for my son and daughter when they were little. My son was invited to a party last year-so I made his costume he went as a umpa lumpa from the show The chocolate factory. I thought it turned out very well, he ordered a green wig from somewhere and a girl did his makeup he really looked good for a 28 year old-he was pleased the way every thing came togather-thought forsure he would have won the 1st place prize, he lost to another-a pregnant nun(she really was pregnant), o well such is life.

My daughter and I decorate her horse every year.. This year he was the magnet and she was the chick!! They got 1st place at the show.

I have made costumes for my nephews for years, but now they tell me they are too old. Luckily I now have granddaughters. The 7th month old who growls got a bear costume, and the 2 year old is going to be a little old lady. There went my dreams of fairy princess costumes. Maybe next year. I'm looking for an old pic of a costume that I made a few years ago.

I found a house dress at Goodwill and remade it for my DGD, complete with the original owner's name written with magic marker.

Great costumes!

Raine54RN 10-26-2013 01:41 PM

My grown daughter is going as poison ivy from the Batman movie, I did not make the costume , if I had there would have been a "oh dear" i. She found a regular seamstress to do it.if I could post from her email I would! It's quite impressive!

Was able to post picture to blogs if you would like to see can't figure to move it to this Thread. Enjoy!

Wow, Quiltmom, that dress is so pretty. Looks like Church to me. Perfect.

I made a lady bug costume for my granddaughter when she was 2 --it had a foam shell with red dots and a hat with feelers. She wore black tights and a black shirt - she was so cute. Another year she was a princess with a long burgandy satin skirt and vest with an overlay of gold netting -- she wore that one everywhere until it wore out. My grandsons have been cowboys. Then it got to be impossible to do all the costumes and work full time too. Now we paint pumpkins!

Lyncat 10-26-2013 09:06 PM

My grand babies came over to try on costumes!

Here is the growly bear (she growls a lot!) and the little old lady (her wig is now gray with a bun). They both liked wearing them!
