Anyone else having weather problems?

2 Attachment(s)
Woke up and tried to go to work but there is so much ice on the driveway that I have to stay home for a couple of hours. So another cup of coffee and read Quilter's Board. It's a great day!! We are suppose to get up to 6 inches of snow tonight. Is any one else having problems?

Bueniebabe 01-29-2013 06:25 AM

we had ice yesterday in north eastern Iowa and snow and cold tomorrow
I can hardly wait for cold again.

gramajo 01-29-2013 08:07 AM

It's setting record warmth temperatures here in the Chicago area today. Heavy rain forecast for later today with temps dropping drastically tomorrow.

nativetexan 01-29-2013 08:14 AM

It was hot yesterday morning here but by afternoon it was snowing. This is the first significant snow we've had this Winter. my plants need it!

romanojg 01-29-2013 08:18 AM

this is one of the many reasons why I love where I live. Like last yr we didn't even get snow but I can drive an hour or so in most any direction if I want to see it; that's not going to happen. Last Friday we got a few inches and most was gone by Sunday. Today it is supposed to be around 60 degrees and up to 70 tomorrow. When we get it, which is rare and even rarer that we get more than 2 to 3 in it's gone in a matter of a day or two or three and then we have a few days of warmer weather. By Thursday it'll be back down to 40. Cold weather only stays around here long enough to make my back hurt but not long enough for you to be really sick of it most of the time. We normally have at least one really nice weekend a month even in the winter.

francie yuhas 01-29-2013 08:39 AM

My DS is shoveling 3inches every 2 hours in Montana.

wolph33 01-29-2013 08:43 AM

it is very icy here too.the bus was an hour late for school today.well she was no longer out there by then so I have one of my grand daughters for the day.she is gonna help rearrange fabric after my honey puts it together.

QuiltnNan 01-29-2013 08:49 AM

wow, your driveway sure is slick!!! my driveway was fine, but the street to the main road was slippery and the car had a hard time entering the road.

GrandmaPeggy 01-29-2013 10:38 AM

That looks nasty to deal with, so it seems like a good plan to stay home for a while. I'll take our winters, but you can have our summers..... LOL

Jingle 01-29-2013 12:58 PM

Yesterday and today is in the 70s here. We are going to pay for it with storms. I hate storms and don't want to lose my power.

Jan in VA 01-29-2013 05:48 PM

I have the state road condition web site on 'one-click-access' -- won't even open the front door if there is just talk of icy conditions! I am a wuss and admit it!

Jan in VA, up against the mountains

gramajo 01-29-2013 06:12 PM

It was 62 earlier. We just had strong rains/winds with thunder and lightning go through. It was raining so hard the satellite dish couldn't get a signal, but we didn't lose power. They're talking 40s tomorrow with temp dropping and snow overnight with temps in the teens on Thur. Thunderstorms in Jan. in this area are ridiculous! It's been so mild here, I'm scared we're going to get hit really hard later. :(

Teddybear Lady 01-29-2013 07:04 PM

We are having tornado warnings and watches tonight. I hate this kind of weather. It's raining and the wind keeps gusting. Possible hail and wind damage. Gonna be a looooooooog night!

BluegrassGurl 01-29-2013 07:07 PM

It was eerily warm here in Kentucky today...... 70 deg.... expecting severe storms tonight ....... and potentially snow on Friday. :p

Edie 01-30-2013 04:25 AM

We are having typical Minnesota weather. Yesterday we had snow melting off the roof and makiing a veritable swimming pool out of our patio, which necessitated shoveling water instead of snow. Today, 40 mph winds are due. You gotta be a diehard Minnesotan! Iowa is a close second! Edie - I love Iowa!

sherryl1 01-30-2013 05:41 AM

just rain.wich this time of year means fog.more rain then turning colder.yuck.

LindaR 01-30-2013 05:42 AM

Michigan....Friday 6" snow, Saturday high 40º, Sunday Rain, Monday rain, last night thunder storm boggle inches of rain and now no snow just flood warnings...gee whiz, where have our post card winters gone LOL

maryfrang 01-30-2013 05:42 AM

We missed the ice here in my part of Missouri, but we had 75 degrees on Monday, 2 1/2 inches of rain on Tuesday, and 60 degrees in the morning and today is 30 but no snow here, we missed that. I guess after last year the best news is the rain. We needed it. I really hope we get some more this upcoming month.

Yooper32 01-30-2013 05:51 AM

The ice and snow went here the last two days. Good, really good news. The bad news is, great blustery winds have now blown my large heavy charcoal grill down for the fourth time this year and not just down, but this time down the hill. It is so heavy I cannot get it back on it's feet if that tells you anything about this wind today. Then tonight or tomorrow, we have been promised more snow. How lucky can you get.

mythreesuns 01-30-2013 07:05 AM

Wow... your not far from my neck of the woods...I live in Antigo...so yup... we had the same issue. Did you see where a Elcho school bus slid in the ditch? Actually a total of three in a 30 mile radius from us did..and they actually had to close Hwy 47 from Neopit to the Langlade county line because it was sooooo horrible that every vehicle that went on that road went into the ditch including a salt truck...that one actually rolled over also. Now today..it is snowing and blowing so bad...a possible 3 to 5 inches today.

Ccorazone 01-30-2013 08:05 AM

Warm and cold. Warm then cold. That's Texas weather. Yuo never know how to dress. Shorts one day and coats the next.

Debra Mc 01-30-2013 09:01 AM

We have had the air conditioner on for 4 days. Awful high winds, bad storm last night. Bad winds again today & colder than it has been in a week. Need the heat. People were at Walmart in shorts last few days. No place like East Texas.

quiltlady37 01-30-2013 10:16 AM

I think about every school and several businesses in Iowa is closed for the day. I even got a message from my LQS that she is closed at least until noon and maybe all day. I have no intention of going out at all today. We have several inches of snow and high winds howling and blowing the snow.

irishrose 01-30-2013 10:50 AM

Wisconsin and Iowa, thank you for telling me what I have coming tomorrow. We are still having cold rain - sometimes heavy. I am under water between the snowbanks and will be icy when it freezes tomorrow before the snow comes. Of course, I have an out of town Dr app't. I'd try to 'shovel' the water out of the garage with a push broom, but there's no place for it to go.

Pam Riggs 01-30-2013 11:00 AM

Woke up to ice last Friday and stayed home from work. 65 mph winds came in last night...temp was 61...thankfully no damage, just a tossed around basketball goal and temp is dropping to the 20's and a chance of snow tonight! Weird weather in Kentucky!

JoanneS 01-30-2013 12:52 PM

This is the strangest winter! Earlier this month, it was colder in Tucson than the East Coast. Then it warmed up for a few days. Then cold again. Today it is in the 70s. Up and down, up and down. It's not usually in the 70s in Jan in Tucson - but I'll take it when I can have it!

nygal 01-30-2013 01:24 PM

We had rain and wind but it is in the mid 50's here today so our snow melted.

Carol Wilson 01-30-2013 01:41 PM

Here in Victoria Australia we are surrounded by bushfires that the firefighters say will take weeks to extinguish. In Queensland and New South Wales there are devastating floods, one cattle station 4000 head of cattle were washed away. The bushfires have also taken a heavy toll on farm animals and our native animals too, farmers are out shooting so many poor burnt animals that have been suffering for many days. Chicago, please send us some of that rain.

purplefiend 01-30-2013 01:42 PM

It was Spring for the last 2 days and today its Winter again. Thankfully no snow or ice, could do with some rain though.

Nancy Ingham 01-30-2013 01:56 PM

The winter here in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire has been anything but normal. A couple of weeks ago the lakes were still unfrozen and the temps were warmer than southern California! Then it got real cold; some of the coldest temps in two years. Tonight we have three weather advisories for dense fog, heavy rain and strong winds. They say we might have power outages.

New Hampshire expects snow and cold temps to freeze over our lakes. The State receives much of its revenue from skiing (downhill and cross country), ice fishing, dogsled racing, snowmobiling (we have more snowmobile paths than roadways in NH) and ice sailing competitions. This revenue helps keep NH free of sales taxes and state income taxes!

trolleystation 01-30-2013 04:33 PM

All of you in upper midwest are sending us in Western New York
State another dose of nasty weather after basking in 65 degree temps this am. Add to that the fact that Lake Erie is only partially frozen...so I suppose that means our famous 'lake effect snow'. Well....I know what I am going to do. I am going into my basement sewing room and forget about the weather.

wudbquilter 01-31-2013 09:53 AM

earthwalker 02-11-2013 09:36 PM

Well, I'm sitting in my bathing suit and sarong in 108.5 F (and rising).....we are in the midst of another heatwave and quite frankly....it's beginning to pall. Mind you, we have been watching the news and have seen what you are going through and we decided, it's easier to cope with heatwaves than snow and ice. Stay warm and safe everyone, we are thinking of you.

TinaH 02-12-2013 01:23 AM

Nice and pleasant here today, max temp of 81F and a low expected of 54F. Nice change from the sorching weather we've had over the last couple of month.

AllAboutScraps 02-12-2013 07:48 AM

I'm in Massachusetts....my Australian nephew came to visit and was disappointed with the lack of snow when he arrived. Nemo arrived over the weekend dropping 2 - 3 feet depending on the area.....he's happy....even after shoveling out his grandmother - which took a good long time. Now he's off sledding.....did I mention he is 28? Personally I enjoy the snow...........as long as I don't have to go anywhere. It's pretty. Making snow angels is fun and so is sledding. It's doing all the stuff that adults have to do regardless of the weather (like go to work and drive in it) that makes it nasty.
