Is anyone going WW? If so do you like it , what equipment does one need ? Any other advice you may have would be appreciated. I have got to do something. I have always been abit overweight , but I am not feeling at all healthy anymore. I had a epiphany yesterday while shopping . Went home in tears . I have lost weight before only to become non compliant with my choices . Thanks for your advice. :?

I have never been a WW member so I can't offer help, but I can offer support and encouragement. However much weight you need to lose, however much fitness you need to gain, YOU CAN DO IT. It might take a long time, and it'll all start with baby steps, but investing in your health is never, ever a bad idea. *hugs*

My husband & I both go. No equipment needed. It is an easy program to follow and the support at the meetings is great. You can't expect the weight to just fall off. If you do, you get discouraged. It's the small changes that keep me going. Losing pants sizes, more energy, a drop in my cholesterol, even rolling over in bed is easier. I hope WW works for you. Just stick with it and you will get there!

Congratulations on making this important dicision. You need nothing speical, just a willing spirit. The support is great, the program isn't difficult, and the results should make you very happy - for yourself. My only advice (as a LT member) is to incorporate excercise. It helps the lbs come off and makes you feel better inside and out.
Best of luck.

Kimberly. I use the free on line. sparkpeople.com that is a wonderful site. they give you a tracker you can enter in your own food and see how good your choices are or use theirs. I do my own. they have a message board and all the tools you need. just be honest with yourself and if you eat a cookie but that down and limit what else you eat to adjust the calories, fat , protein, so and so on. take a look at it. I have been on 10 days and lost 7 lbs. But I am honest with it. if i cheat I put that on my log.
Dawn (((drink your water and tea))))

I used to belong but honestly you don't need it. Just cut down portions, learn what's healthy to fuel your body and start moving! Drink lots of water too.
WW is a good program, don't get me wrong. My problem with it is twofold: it's expensive, and it makes me think about food constantly.
Whatever you choose, good luck! You can do it :)

We have a couple of threads here for folks going to WW.
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-58627-1.htm

I've been going since January 2011. You don't need any equipment except for the starter stuff - WW changed its plan recently so any stuff older than December 2010 is not correct.

I added stuff as I went along - I have a Wii with a Wii Fitness disk & board; I use the Resort. Both help me get exercise in while it's too hot to be outside.

You can do this. Go to the meetings for support & tips. Lots of water. Be active. :)

You will find your happiness again.

I have done WW a couple of times, once in 1998 and lost 50 pounds, kept it off for about 5 years and then it slowly crept back. Lost another 30 or so on the older WW. The new plan is ok, because now all fruits and veggies are free food. I don't bother going to meetings, I got the books and stuff and after awhile quit to continue on my own.

If you're one of those that needs constant reassurance go to the meetings, but it is expensive and basically you can follow the program on your own once you have the books.

I did weight watchers years ago and fell off the wagon. Not special equipment except a notebook to write down what you eat. Drink lots of water. Good luck and be my inspiration!!!

I'm slowly losing weight by myself, and found it's easier, waaay easier by simply not buying or eating anything already prepared!!

One more thing that is absolutely guaranteed to make you GAIN weight, is to drink diet sodas. The Aspartame in it seems to screw up your body's working correctly. People have gotten wise to it and sales have been down, they are now legally changing its name, at least 2 of them I've heard of, one of which is

Amino Sweet. Doesn't that sound nutritious?

Check this out, you'd be surprised.

And now I myself am trying to quit sodas..even changing to tea and coffee doesn't seem to help, there must be another drug in there to make it addictive!! Wouldn't surprise me a bit. But I'll win in the long run, I'm cutting down slowly, very slowly but less intake each day. It's like going off a drug.

I have, in the past, done WW. It really does work! I think the going to the weekly meetings keeps you more accountable. It should help you to rethink your eating habits. That said, the weekly fee is salty (but there again is the premise that you will stick to something if you are having to pay for it).

I think it all boils down to eating proper portion sizes (and we Americans seem to super-size everything) and getting enough exercise. Oh, yes...and like the above posters mentioned...watch out for those diet sodas! I am a Dt Pepsi freak...and I am now down to one small dt pepsi a day. That is quite an accomplishment for me!!! Instead, I drink water with a paper-thin lemon slice all day long. Amazing the difference that right there will make!

My husband and I both go to WW. I ***HATE*** the new Points Plus Program. I does not work if you are a vegetarian or you don't eat much meat. With the new plan, most fruits and vegetables are zero points. The minimum daily points are 29 and there is no way that I can eat that many points and not gain weight. There is simply no way I can eat that many points at all.

Several members of the meeting I go to wrote to WW and were basically told that they were neurotic and they needed to give the plan a chance. We were all there long before the change so I feel that remark was snide and ignorant. As long as you pay your $$ every month I think they are happy. With the new plan, it will take longer to reach your goal (IMHO) which is a good thing for them.

What we do now is calculate points under the old plan (sure am glad one lady saved all of the old material) and we're back in business.

They may push the "zero" point issue as far as they want. Fruit/veggies have calories and sugar no matter what spin you want to put on it.

Most of my friends have left and I think I'll be doing the same very soon. It's sad because I have done so well. But then again, I've really done it on my own since last November.

kimscruzer 07-26-2011 01:45 PM

What type of tea do you drink ? I was on Sparks sometime ago. Do they have the WW calculator for points ? If I may ask , what is your sparks name so we can be buddies. ; )

Celebration! Weighed in today - down to 151.4 pounds. :)

Had a (weird) non-scale victory: went for a walk to get a paper from the local 7-11. My shorts stayed down by themselves the entire time!
(if you've never had fat thighs, you won't understand that)

zipit 08-08-2011 11:01 AM

Congratulations!

My sister did the diet a few years ago..she still looks amazing. She lost what she wanted to lose. She is very happy with the results and loved it:)

If you have never lost weight before, WW is a good start. Portion control and moving is key to any weight lost program. I walk about 45 minutes a day. Leave bread off of all hamburgers or skip fast food period. the average hamburger bun is 200-300 calories. I can find better bread to put in my mouth. I have lost 75 pounds.
