Anyone watch the closing episode of The Closer?

Wasn't too exciting but it tied up most of the loose ends and put everyone in their new places, a subdued Brenda and Sgt. Gaberial(sp?) in the DA's office, her DH and the rest of the gang in Major Crimes. Knew one of her parents were going to die but it was sad that the Mom did as she was charming while the Father is a real pain (too much like real life, LOL). Wonder if the new Major Crimes show will keep our interest like The Closer did? Did try to watch the opening episode but fell asleep during the early commericals and when I woke up I couldn't follow the story line, hope they have the same writers as The Closer or it will go downhill like the spinoff Law and Order shows.

I watched it and kept waiting to get all into it. I couldn't follow some of the story. It was sad to see her Mom die when I thought it would be her dad. I can't figure out why she goes back to Atlanta(supposedly) when she brought her dad to LA for his treatment? If Fritz stays on in Major Crimes, it will be sad for Brenda not to be on there unless being in the DA's office they will have her in some of the episodes. I hate it when they try to do a spin off when it is the chemistry between the existing characters that makes the show a hit. I did guess what the gang was going to give her as a going away gift because she ruined her tote shooting that guy. That is one of the items that can be bought on The Closer gift site. I guess time will tell but I wasn't impressed with the opening show of Major Crimes. Too much going on plus the inner struggle with the characters.

I think she was going back to Atlanta to be with her father after all the rest of the family left.

The Closer lasted longer much longer than expected, I remember Seinfield's dumb ending. Coming to a good ending was difficult, at least she got the guy (the rapist) she wanted in the end.

nativetexan 08-14-2012 08:47 AM

but did she get the guy into jail for life? I know she caught him but I didn't see anything more on that.
Frances Sternhagen (I think) played her Mom and is a lovely actress. I will miss seeing her. Glad the older detective gets a stronger part in the new show. Can't stand Mary's part. her mouth and glasses drive me nuts. it took me long enough to get used to Kyra Sedgewick's mouth as it was. oh well.
they showed the new show and the ending of the old one twice last night.

I hated to see the Closer end, really enjoyed it. Major Crimes was (for me) pretty good. They are doing things a little different and I believe giving some of the other actors a bigger part to play in the goings on. I think it will only get better & better. But I could be wrong, hope not.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with a "mouth" problem. Do you think casting went out looking for women with strange mouths?

I really like the show but missed the one about her mom dying, knew her dad was having chemo. Watched finale. In 'Major Crimes' I was surprised Fritz was still there & soooo happy to see older actor getting more promoted roles. Don't like the new actress as Chief. Did old detective with gray hair get promoted? Looked like in 'Major Crimes" he did for a week or so? I really like detective/mystery shows. Loved Monk, even old Sherlock Holmes (don't care for the new). Periquot & English detective show on PBS (can't recall name).

Loved Kyra and The Closer. I can't stand Mary. She talks like she has marbles in in mouth and has that same timid, dumb demeanor as the part she played in Dances with Wolves. She may have an academy award, that doesn't mean you are a great actor. I think she is a very weak actress. Maybe she can work on her mumbling. She is not believeable in this role. Love the rest of the Major Crimes actors.

Her mouth drives me crazy too! Not sure I liked "Mary" at the beginning of Major Crimes" but towards the end she did show a softer side. My BF LOVES this show! He travels alot so when he is home it is a marathon on Closer - drives me nuts sometimes!

ItsJustMe 08-15-2012 07:44 AM

I watched everything, and can't say I'm going to be as loyal to Major Crimes as I was to The Closer. Watched the first episode of Major Crimes, and the jury is still out. Will have to watch a couple more episodes to see if I want to continue.

Ditto here. I loved Brenda and The Closer show. My DDs didn't like Major Crimes at all. Also, don't really care for the woman in charge, CPT Rayder, but maybe she'll grow on me.

nativetexan 08-15-2012 08:36 AM

He, he. BarbP the mouth thing was something Kyra thought up I think. to make the character different. well she certainly was. it got better later on though.
Mary's mouth? who knows why she did the same thing. it's like her jaws are locked.
ljpTX, I also love detective shows. and books. especially British authors. not so much blood and gore. sorry American authors but you know I"m right!
i have comcast here and Colorado has a great channel with European detective shows. they are sub-titled though. you can also watch them on your computer. maybe everyone can, not sure. MHz worldview. try it.

quiltmau 08-15-2012 09:00 AM

I watched - Pope is a jerk -more concerned about his career than about justice - and Cpt Rayder is too interested in being PC-I liked Brenda because she was for the victim and hell on the criminal.

The new show is too much PC and not enough for the victims. I hope it gets better if not then I am out of there.

The way they are treating Lt Provenza was a crime and shows lack of respect for his expertise and abilities.

Rayder wants them to like her and respect her but she hasn't shown any respect for the squad. Her only ally is an a** kisser who lies thru her teeth.

Closer

I watched one show from show # 1 until the finale.......but my daughter ran into our house and before saying hello..asked which TV she could watch since it was the last Closer.......

We finally chatted when the show was over....so I guess she is one of the ones who will definitely miss watching it.

Corky 08-15-2012 11:45 AM

I agree with you. I liked MC, but the jury is still out. I will probably watch it for a while and either love it or lose interest. I have set to record the series. Sure going to miss The Closer, though.

The Closer has been my fav from the beginning. I've watched all the shows and the reruns. I watched MC and liked it. I'll probably continue to watch it.

Patti25314 08-15-2012 03:55 PM

The rapist looked like he was dying on the floor, but they definitely left it open for his character to escape prison and return. I thought the elevator scene was amazing! Haven't watched the other show yet.

qltrwannab 08-15-2012 06:33 PM

This has been my favorite show from the very begining !! Love Kyra S. .. and I will miss her..hoping she will appear in a few Major Crimes episodes.. I cried when her mom died on the show... so sad.. wish her luck in all her future
endeavors... I will be watching Major Crimes !

nancia 08-15-2012 09:13 PM

when did the mom die? what date? i thought we had recorded all the shows, but for sure i missed that one! will probably keep watching mc, unless something REALLY good comes on at the same time. if it's all mediocre at that time, what difference does it make? i'll watch the 'mediocre' show i know. lol

I'm another one with a "mouth thing." They say the eyes are the things many people are attracted to first, but for me, it has always been mouths. I had trouble at times watching Kyra, because she has one of those mouths that drive me nuts. I always think of the expression "mealy mouthed" for someone like that. I was never sure about Capt. Raydor, whether she was really trying to help Brenda or not. She talks like everything is a secret and she doesn't want anyone else to hear. Major Crimes was a bit of a disappointment, but I think it takes a while to stop comparing a spin-off to the original show. We'll see.

coopah 08-16-2012 03:37 AM

"The Closer" was a favorite program here, probably because I identified with the chocolate/candy drawer. So glad Fritz got Brenda's candy back for her!! Not sure about the new show yet.

I am a real fan of the Closer. I loved the mom and hated to see her die. The final episode was okay esp the gift portion. I was really disappointed with Major Crimes because I don't care for Mary either. Like all of you the glasses and mouth stuff drives me nuts. It's like she doesn't have a personality. We were Monk fans too.

Debra Mc 08-16-2012 01:56 PM

Internet said she decided to take a break from TV. Never watched because she got on my nerves.lol

Geri B 08-16-2012 02:37 PM

the mumbling and talking fast seems to be the "new" thing in all of the new tv shows............have to put the volume up to catch everything said and no my ears are fine.........Major Crimes is still a question in my must see list.........some of the new things coming up in the fall sound quite interesting............hope there are more than 10 episodes in the new season..........to many breaks for "specials" and "sport events".......JMHO

I also was sorry the Mom died, she was charming but the Father was a pain in the butt (gee, just like real life, LOL!)
I love crime/mystery shows too and have to say the English really do them well. All time favorite was Morse, 2nd Prime Suspect with Helen Mirren as Jane, and tied for 3rd are The Closer and the orginal Law and Order. Of course the English also have some duds, did you ever see their version of Law and Order? Exactly same plots as the American ones.

Major Crimes might make it if they keep the same writers and it doesn't turn into a comedy with Flynn and Provenza getting into jams all of the tim, I love those guys.

Rubesgirl 08-16-2012 07:31 PM

I will also miss The Closer. Brenda was an interesting character and was developed over the show. I don't care about Capt Rayder's character. It is difficult to understand what she's saying with her voice pitched so low and soft. She does not come across as a sympathetic character; she's too controlled. We'll have to wait and see whether MC will make it or not.

CajunQuilter2 08-17-2012 05:21 AM

Am glad to know I am not the only one who does not like Mary. I will probably not be as faithful to Major Crimes as I was to The Closer.
