Aren't they cold? I just don't get it!
Last week I counted six different guys ranging in age from teen to at least 50 wearing shots and winter coats. It was near zero degrees outside. I was in a large grocery store. My friend commented that she saw several around her little rural town wearing similar garb and even flip-flops in the snow! I spoke with a friend on the phone back in Illinois and she read me an article from Midwest Living magazine that said you know you're in the Midwest when you see shorts with winter coats and flip-flops (fur-lined) in the snow. Surely these men own or could get long pants and shoes or boots. Do they not feel cold? Is this a "fashion statement"? Is this happening where you live too?

I've seen teenager in hoodies, jeans and sneakers with their hands jammed down in their pockets trying to keep warm. Apparently it isn't "cool" to dress for the weather?

Apparently it's not cool to wear a heavy winter coat in high school. Also, it's hard to fit them into the lockers with all the books, etc. I can sort of/almost understand teenagers going along with the fad. But I've known of men into their 30s and 40s who make a vow to wear shorts all winter except for work and church. I don't get that either. I want to be warm!

We get a number of men (over 30) who come in wearing shorts. They've just been to the gym working out and obviously didn't want to shower and change before heading home. I work at a gas station/convenience store.

Oh, I thought you were describing the winter appreal for Texas. It can be below freezing and if the sun is out, it's short time with pull over sweater or sweat shirt. lol

When we lived in Illinois, my husband used to wear shorts to shovel snow! Now, he's older and colder--must be because his blood pressure is finally under control!

When I was in high school, 1966-1970, it was the cool thing to wear wool shorts with knee high socks, and penny loafers. I had about three pairs and wore them on weekends when I went out. I look back now and think I was crazy!

Around here they wear pants with their underwear hanging out - I guess the Native American's wore breach cloths - SIL says they had cheek skin - like your cheeks can stand the cold anything else can, too if you are used to it. When I was a kid we all wore dresses to school and bobby socks - the legs got used to it I guess. Any more, I want to be bundled up.

In the early 80' when "preppy" was the style, my roommate and good friend would wear long sleeve oxford shirts with her shorts...in the winter. Seemed weird even back then.
