I have a very small back yard and I am thinking about getting artificial turf. I see the commercials on TV about Heavenly Greens but I also read a review from someone who said they were quoted $18 sq ft versus $5 sq ft for another product (which they didn't name).

My daughter's dog totally trashed my back yard and I'm just now getting it back together. I hired my son and his friend to rake back all the rock, put down new landscape fabric, and put the rock back. I only have a few plants left alive after the dog and there is still one side of the house that is just dirt, about 9' wide by the length of the house. I'm thinking of planters along the edges for flowers and it would be nice to have lawn with stepping stones going to a small seating area.

Has anyone used artificial turf? If so, what brand and how do you like it?

This is what it looked like before the dog. It's all cleaned up again now and the deck boards were replaced and stained a dark red. I was going for a Japanese garden look.

We saw some artificial turf at Costco a couple weeks ago, looked pretty
good, 8x12 approx $80, don't remember exactly. Never used it, but with
water being in short supply around here we may see more of it.

Thanks, I will take a look. 8'x12' is about perfect for the side of the house with room for flowers on the sides.

My son will be over today to do some work around the house. He usually does anything I need help with just because but, he's been laid off (construction) and needs the money so he asked if there was anything he could do to earn some.

I respect that he doesn't just ask me for money but, asks if he can work for it. I told him the carpets need to be cleaned, the crown moulding put up in one bedroom, and whatever work can be done in the yard. Maybe a trip to Costco is on the schedule for today. :-)

I wish your son lived closer! I could give him a "honey-do" list that would last him months!!!

I've done everything myself for a long time like tiling a bathroom floor, putting up wainscot and chair rail and crown moulding. Sanded and painted kitchen cabinets, even laid Pergo flooring in the last house. I just don't want to do it anymore and since he is an apprentice carpenter and his father is a contractor.... he knows how to do all of that. :-)

I learned all of it too from being married to a contractor for 20 years and working with him.

I know how to do it also, but working full time and having a busy 2 year old at home, plus a husband who is working 7 days/12 hrs, I hardly have time to do anything! ugh. my husband says to "make hay" while you can. I agree, but it's hard.

You may also ask them how to keep it secured to the ground around the edges. Also, you may want to make sure that the ground is very even, it can make every bump and nook pretty visible :wink:
