Is it just me, or does the Fat Free and Low Fat stuff taste terrible? I'd rather just limit my intake than east that stuff. I bought a bottle of Blue Cheese dressing...fat free....was watery. Won't buy that again.

Oh, and the cheese thing..........totally a downfall for me!! I LOVE CHEESE. But I'm trying to be good and limit it. If I went on a Liver diet I'd be really really skinny by now....I HATE LIVER!!! LOL.

Everose 08-15-2012 07:18 AM

Isn't it great that we are all different! My Mother doesn't like chocolate - I know some people just aren't normal. But DH and I consider liver a wonderful meal. Now cheese - I can take or leave. Trying to be very good after traveling, but I'm a stress eater so stopping at Arby's at 9:30 last night didn't help. Today is another day - thank you Lord.

Vanogay 08-15-2012 10:15 AM

Well, weight has been down this past week, but given that I had an upset stomach last Friday and kept losing everything I had - both ways, it is not surprising. Took a day or two and now, my stomach seems to be back in order, so to keep the volume down to a low roar and perhaps I can keep that number down, too. Won't be too hard to stop/avoid cheese. I'm a take it or leave it kinda person with that. Keep in better health everyone and stick around with us for awhile.

Glad I don't live near you!!!! Do they give samples?????? I guess this is in WI..... and not TX my sister lives about 50 miles from Houston in a little place called Shepherd and I think Conroeis the other way. Only been there once in Aug and that was the wrong time to go.. went to San Antino to the Alamo and Fiesta Park not a good place to go when it is a 106 degrees and you are from the hills of WV. She always comes in Aug. since it is so hot there.

I totally agree. I can't eat the fat free or light versions of dressings or anything except my Fage o% Greek yogurt which I love. FF and light dressings are always so sweet to me and have a strange mouthfeel. I look for regular dressings with the fewest ingredients and additives and no sugar. Newman's Own olive oil and vinegar is great-basically oil, vinegar and seasonings. I also make my own dressing a lot. Balsamic vinegar, olive oil and dijon mustard with seasonings. If I've been good and want a treat I will have litehouse blue cheese or Caesar. I am also a total cheese freak. If I add feta to my salad for lunch it seems to satisfy my cheese craving. Still in a holding pattern here can't seem to get myself unstuck.

nancia 08-15-2012 04:55 PM

i love one or 2 cheeses but they don't love me, and leave as soon as possible. i figure they don't hang around long enough to leave calories. ;). liver, never passes my lips! or nose! my dh loves it so i have told him he can have it anytime he is out without me! he has been very nice and brought me a strawberry shake monday, and one today. as soon as my mouth is up to it i will enjoy warm foods. so far only cold. tomorrow we go to the grange fair, a yearly trip. dh enjoys the food and i enjoy the handcrafts and animals. it is a signal to me that fall approaches! fall is by far my favorite season. well, one of the top 4 at any rate! i love texas, but i also love the change of seasons. when i lived in dallas i would go with friends to santa fe the 3rd week in august. it was culturally very rich-- every nite we went to the opera, and on the week end it was indian trade days. soooo much fun! at one time i knew where the only color changing trees were in dallas. since then they have planted more. hurray for diversity! lol

Went to see a friend this weekend in VA for a quilting weekend. Totally thought my diet plans would be ruined. Even had a beer, small piece of cake, and a piece of chocolate. But got on the scale this morning and it had moved in the downward motion again. I was soooooo relieved. Hoping to stay in that direction. It's very very tough!!!!

createfourpaws 08-21-2012 08:33 AM

Good Morning ladies......from a rainy dallas with a cool front, today we are not suppose to get out of the 80's. I have been asked to make 3 t-shirt quilts, one of them i have had the t-shirts from before I had my lung surgery last year. Got with her this weekend and we discussed what she wanted. Early this morning I cut them apart now to go stablize them and get started on putting them together. Then a gentleman friend asked me to put all his racing t-shirt into 2 quilts, got his shirts and will start those as soon as the other one is done.

So will job hunt in the mornings and work on the quilts in the afternoon.

Eating has been good, staying away from the unhealthy stuff. I am down another 3 lbs this month.

Ladies .......what are you working on and how is your month coming along.

Remember we are in control of what we do and the choices we make.

I wont buy any low fat or ff dressings, I have found that if i get my dressing on the side or when at home measure out a small portion i do good. To me those dressing do me in, coz they are using more fake ingredients that coz more problems than the real stuff.

Liver will not pass my lips either.....YUK!!!

Pam 304 08-21-2012 08:51 AM

Taboo Tues. This week the tabbo is no rice.
Pam S

Vanogay 08-21-2012 02:37 PM

Okay, now you've done it Pam. I love rice! I will be in withdrawals before the week is out. I have tried brown rice which I didn't like and fix white rice about 3 times per week. On to noodles, I guess. Went out to lunch with some friends (one of them had had surgery and we were celebrating her recovery). Had an open faced sandwich with veggies. For dinner, I just had a protein drink. I am trying that to fill me up without filling me out. My weight has been pretty steady on the same figure - need to knock it down a digit or two or three. Good Luck CreateFour with your recent loss and may there be more coming off. Good luck everyone with the losses.

Greetings!!! Cindy - way to go. I thought it would be much easier to eat healthy with DH on the road and Mom in the memory unit, but it isn't. My church service group served a funeral today. All the bars and cookies looked so good, so had a couple. Thank goodness we were busy, or else the eating would have been worse. But then I went to see Mom and not having the big veggie salads that I have been used to really did me in for supper. Tomorrow is another day - will start fresh again.

Tonight I am working on a scrapy top for the quilting ladies of the church. They make quilts for 3rd world countries. So when I have a lot of scraps piling up I start sewing squares. Make them 20 1/2 " square - top is to be 60" x 80". So I will finish putting this together tomorrow and take to them on Thursday.

nancia 08-21-2012 10:42 PM

i have 2 quilts a friend la'd for me and i need to get them bound. new sofa coming on saturday so old loveseat goes out friday. oooo, i'm so excited! had my first solid food tonight-- pb&j, made by dh. the crust was difficult, but the rest tasted terrific. so soft foods for awhile longer.pout! i need to go get the stitches out. the way my teeth roots grow i always lose bone with the tooth. takes some longer to recupe.
cindy-- you are inspiring! i should be losing, but puddings and milkshakes are not lowcal, even if they are all i eat. salad is beginning to sound fantastic, and i'm missing fresh jersey corn! y'all probably don't know, but it's the BEST corn ever!
i'm sending fabric for a boomerang and have started an amish style dq. i owe a lovely woman a needle case so will get that one done pronto, AND i need to sandwich olivia's quilt. heavens, with the rain and temps in the 80's she's probably freezing!
just a quick health reminder! don't forget your shingles shot and importantly, your flu shot! better than the disease!! stay healthy, cool and hydrated!! water, water everywhere, and all for us to drink!!!

Pam H 08-22-2012 05:30 AM

Nancia, you poor, poor girl. I hope you get that mouth healed up soon. Could you use a blender or food processor to make some kind of corn chowder out of that fresh Jersey corn? I need to try that corn because if it is better than Iowa or Wisconsin sweetcorn that must really be something!
It finally cooled off in WI so where am I? In Texas! Since the house hasn't sold yet, I came down to pack up some of the things we want from the house. I guess I came to trim some bushes too. Wowie, they look horrible. I'm pretty sure that is what scared off the woman who looked at the house on monday. Hubby will get here this weekend so he will do most of it but I will at least clear a pathway to get to the front door. Hubby moves into his apartment 9/1 so we will drive a u-haul up with bedroom furniture and some stuff he needs. I am NOT looking forward to that trip.
For some reason I want to eat healthy and get exercise when I am here. Must be from my new outlook on life when I was here last winter. Have a healthy eating day, everyone. I am off to hack at some jungle plants before it gets too hot.

nancia 08-22-2012 11:05 PM

i know at least one side of my jaw is healing. the other , not so much. but honestly, some people are never happy! who among us wouldn't just love to have their fill of milkshakes and chocolate pudding, and applesauce and pb&j sandwiches, oh, and chef boyardee mini ravioli? i'm so lucky and i'm grumping! right now if i could eat some fresh jersey corn, it would be coming out my ears!! soon........ i'm sure iowa and wisconcin have delicious sweet corn, too. but i will say there has to be something about the soil. the tomatoes, corn and peaches, in particular are stellar! and the berries, yum! i can eat raspberries, i think. man, i just want to be able to eat a big ol' mesquite grilled sirloin, medium rare. or a jumbo all beef hot dog. i can see where this is going, lol, and it's no place good! 8-)

cdmmiracles 08-23-2012 02:42 AM

Good morning ladies. I've really been slacking with my posts this month. Hope everyone is doing ok with their way of life change to shed some extra fluff. I'm still working on my "Lone Star", thought it was done, but measured after ironing and need to figure out something else to add without taking away from it......ughh. Well it's back to the paperwork time now. Hope everyone has a blessed day.

createfourpaws 08-27-2012 01:44 PM

wow what a quiet group we have been. I am wondering if we need to continue, we don't have the following we once did. And I know life does tend to get in the way. Would love some input on what you guys want to do.

I do know that if we do continue, instead of mailing the FQ's to me at the beginning of, will be mailing to the winner at the end of the month like we use to. I have 4 months that i need to mail to winners. I am sorry I havent mailed them out. I hope to be able to mail them this week.

Please give me some input on what you guys want.

Pam H 08-27-2012 01:53 PM

It is pretty sad how few posts are made. It does seem to be dying out. We used to have 6 pages by day 2 or 3 and that's all we have for this whole month. Of course there used to be 70 or so people sign up for the contest and some of them were pretty chatty. Maybe it is time to put an end to it. Sorry this has been a burden for you, Cindy....with all you have going on in your life. How did your job interview go?

Jim's Gem 08-27-2012 02:49 PM

Maybe it's because it is summer time and we are all busy doing various things and going various places. I have been around, just not "talkative"
I am not doing as well with my eating this summer. I am going to do better!!!
Sat thru another nutrition class at my Endocrinologist's office. I am motivated! I need to eat better and get exercise!!
DH and I walked around the block Saturday for the first time since my foot surgery. About an hour afterward my foot started throbbing. Yesterday I had to use my cane to get around at church and home. Fortunately it is doing better today but maybe I shouldn't go walking yet. It was only 8/10 of a mile. I started therapy, finally, last week, just got home from my second visit a few minutes ago. I just want to be able to walk!!!!!
I am up for continuing. I will endeavor to post more often instead of just reading the posts!
Thanks for all you do Cindy!

meanmom 08-27-2012 03:49 PM

I have decided I need to get serious again about weight loss. I have been at basically the same weight all summer. I signed up at the gym today. I worked out with weights etc. I hope I can get out of bed tomorrow. I am meeting with a personal trainer on Wednesday. I feel like I don't even know what I should do to get in shape.
I just found out I am going to be a grandma again. This will be my second granbaby. My daughter is only about 5 weeks along. She hasn't told anyone else yet. Not even my husband. I'm not allowed to tell anyone, it is killing me.

nancia 08-27-2012 04:03 PM

meanmom, i'm so excited for you! when i found out about my dgd this is the first place i came to share the news i was forbidden to tell!
cindy--i think we should continue the thread, even if it's just a few of us. it's nice to know you are all here, and a good place to get support and "attagirl" pats on the back. maybe it's time to stop the fq prize. and just lose for the glory of losing! jmho.

Pam 304 08-27-2012 05:24 PM

Taboo Tues. a little early.... will be gone tomorrow. No Red Meat. I know some of you will hate me!!!!! Good Luck!
PamS

quilthappygail 08-27-2012 05:46 PM

Hey all, how does a month go by so fast? Have been so busy with stuff I haven't been able to spend time here.
I would love to see this continue with or without FQ.
Have been doing ok with eating but need to do even better. Keep up the good work all and don't forget to drink plenty of water.
Gail

Jim's Gem 08-27-2012 05:57 PM

No Red Meat!!! You can't do that to us!!!!
Not sure if I can follow that one. I will make an effort, at least at the beginning.

Pam 304 08-27-2012 06:31 PM

I know that is a bad one.... almost as bad a soda's or pop... whatever you all call it.

nancia 08-27-2012 10:15 PM

now, this would have been great for the past 2 weeks when i couldn't eat solids! i'm craving chewy protein! guess i can try chicken and fish. is the salmon running? i would love some nice bright wild salmon! guess it's more natural p'nut butter for me! ooo, and eggs! i could have egg salad, or scrambled eggs. wish i could get up and cook right now!!

Jim's Gem 08-27-2012 10:33 PM

Nancia
for Breakfast every day I scramble up 2 eggs and toss in a little cubed ham but add onion, red bell pepper, broccoli and spinach and top it off with my homemade salsa. I get in at least 1 to 1 1/2 cups of veggies in. Would make a great dinner!!!!

I don't drink anything except water or hot tea and once glass of orange juice with some MSM in it a day. Don't drink soft drinks or anything like that so that one is very easy for me!!!

I love veggie omelets. I leave off the ham or bacon because of the sodium. But chicken or turkey is just as good. Or I just do vegetables. I can eat them any time of the day. [I love red meat, but since I learned how long the residue from red meats stays "with us" in our intestines, I am reminded not to eat it so often. It forms a "sludge" in the intestines and takes days before it's gone. And if we don't eat enough fiber, it'll be with us even longer. YUK! So have those veggie omelets and enjoy.

Vanogay 08-28-2012 09:22 AM

Cindy, It doesn't matter either way to me. I"ve enjoyed mailing them at the first of the month because it makes me accountable from the beginning, but can mail them to the winner at the end of the month. I've tried to check in every so often here, but I'm not one of the 'chatty' ones, I guess. But I agree with Pam, thanks for your efforts here - and the work you've done with this and for us.

Everose 08-28-2012 09:54 AM

I, also, have been checking in but not a lot of "Chat". Maybe that's why the scale has gone up. When I "talk" to you, I am more responsible. So I would like to see the thread continue, FQ whatever. I get "down" and then I tend to sit on the sidelines instead of cheering everybody else on. GO TEAM GO!!!!

With Mom at the memory unit, I now can schedule other things. So this morning I went down to the blood bank and donated. Of course, while I was gone, there was a message from a brother that will be passing through and wants to stop. Ladies, please say some prayers for us. This is the brother that I haven't seen or heard from since Mom came to live with us last July. Know it will be a shock to him that she is in the unit and how she looks. Me, well I'm a stress eater, so I am going to try to be good to myself today. Wish now he hadn't left the message, but just stopped in. Now I have hours to stew.

I did buy 2 packages of chicken breasts that were on sale. So will have veggies for lunch and a chicken breast for supper.

Take care - be good to YOU. I will not have another soda today, I promise you.

nancia 08-28-2012 10:42 AM

thanks for the eggs idea! i haven't cooked for the past 2 weeks at least, maybe longer ( who remembers these things?). stitches out tomorrow. my drink of choice, other than water is iced coffee or tea. i had a frozen raspberry margarita the other night and altho' it was a caloric no-no, it hit the spot. kool-aide for adults! lol ! my dh has a soda machine which was a present because he drinks gallons of seltzer water. now i've discovered i like it, too. no calories, and you can add things like a sprig of mint, or a twist of citrus and it is refreshing. all my life i've been asked if i was diabetic because i almost always have a drink in hand, usually water. i'm not. never have been ( so far), but i get dehydrated very quickly. so i drink!
di, it's always hard for the non-caretaker child to see their parent after a span of time. they are not as prepared for the rapid failing that takes place. i didn't see my mom. other than pictures, and those were hard enough. i imagine your brother will be shocked. losing our parents for many of us is a process before the final event. i hope your brother understands that. no matter how old we get, we refuse to believe our parents will get older, on a very deep level. in my mind i accept it, in my heart i never will. . congrats on the blood donation! so important for the coming holiday for the blood banks to have enough !! encourage others who can to do so as well! i give platelets, and less often whole blood. need to make an appointment! thanks for the reminder!

Vanogay 08-28-2012 03:21 PM

Well, went with hubby to doctor for a little in-office surgery to remove a cyst from his back. He wanted to go out to eat afterwards. I was good though. Had meat loaf and beans. Did fall off the wagon though and has a small peach cobbler. It was one of the senior desserts and fairly small. My scale has been heading downwards, but still nothing more than a 1 lb loss - need to increase the exercise if I eat dessert again. I'll try not to do that again - at least for awhile. What's our taboo food this week? Didn't see it posted.

Vanogay 08-28-2012 03:26 PM

Well, I went back and re-read some of the posts - when I hit the button on page one to take me to the last read post, it took me too far and I missed a whole page of comments. Also found the taboo. Well, I broke it already as I had meat loaf, but hadn't read that post till now - so will cut that out of the diet for the rest of the week. I don't eat a whole lot of red meat - if I do, it's mostly in the ground meat type, so maybe won't have too much trouble. I made it the whole week last week without rice - actually made it. I don't think I've missed it too much, either. We'll see about this.

CountryHouseQuilter 08-29-2012 12:26 PM

Sorry I haven't been on here to comment in the last week. Got back from VA and worked 2 days. Then off 2 days, one of which I went to Johns Hopkins to participate in the 2nd Phase of a study group. I did this last year and they called me back. It's because I had an EKG done about 3 yrs. ago and I fit the criteria they needed for the study. I get all sorts of stuff done to me for free...well, they actually pay me, and pay for my parking and give me a $10 food voucher for lunch. DH took me this time because I had to go during the early morning rush hour, which I hate, so they gave him a $10 voucher too. When I finished we ate in the cafeteria. They have great food and healthy choices. I did very well there. And when the testing was done they told me my heart was in great shape...kind of like getting a 2-for!!

This past weekend I worked, and was super busy. All sorts of things going on around here. Kept my mind off of food, which is always a good thing. I lost a lb. or 2 which was a good thing.

Sunday was crabs with my DH, DD, parents and DB and his wife. I think that might have been all I had that day. I went to help my GF put her longarm together that she bought, came home and cleaned up some things around the house and then it was off to pick up crabs and go eat. We had a wonderful evening, and I picked a box full of tomatoes!! So yesterday I made 2 crock pots full of tomato sauce to freeze, and cooked a big turkey breast for DH to have to eat for sandwiches this week. Now today and tomorrow it's back to work. This will be my 3 day weekend coming up, so I'm taking my mom to JoAnn's for their sale early friday morning and then to BJ's to get somethings. Then I'm quilting the rest of the weekend. I have a flannel quilt laid out on the floor I need to sew together, and a quilt on the longarm to quilt.

Well, I think I've caught up for now. I promise as soon as the summer calms down I'll be posting more. Have a GREAT evening ladies!!!!!

meanmom 08-29-2012 04:39 PM

I haven't lost anything this month. Son was home, 2 daughters moved to separate place etc. Really busy. My son wanted all of his favorites while he was here. ( all bad things). He lives in Japan and his wife is Japanese so he gets mostly Japanese food. It would suit me fine. I joined a gym on Monday and met with a personal trainer today and I have a workout planned for me. I did it today and will see how I feel tomorrow. I did their thirty minute circuit on Monday and wasn't sore the next day. I was surprised at that. I am down 40 pounds but have been stuck there for ages. Probably because I don't behave. I am trying to cut my carbs and sweets. Increasing my protein.

CountryHouseQuilter 08-30-2012 12:37 PM

I hear ya' Mean - if I cut carbs and sweets I feel so much better, and I seem to sleep better too!! And the protein helps keep me going.

I don't understand why you name is "meanmom" if you cooked all your sons favorite dishes while he was home. Sounds like "AWESOME" mom to me

meanmom 08-30-2012 01:47 PM

I got the name meanmom years ago when my kids were little. Whenever they would tell me I was mean because I wouldn't let them do something I would tell then I learned it at meanmom school. I became a family joke. My sister and sister in law would tell their kids the same thing. When I made my email address years ago we used it kinda as a joke. Now I am kinda stuck with it because I don't want to change my email.
