Congratulations Meanmom!!!

irishrose 08-04-2013 01:37 PM

Congratulations , meanmom. You worked hard so enjoy your reward. I though I had won with 6 1/2 pounds. I will have to satisfied with the knowledge that for once I lost more than two pounds in a month while you pet "our" batiks. Now I can start cutting my stained glass quilt with the batiks I already have. Do I want the simple one with just one batik and 2 sashing strips or a more pieced one made like a turning twenty? I'm leaning toward the simple.

Thanks, Cindy, for the encouragement. I've put some thought into the problems and have taken some action to remedy the situations. The solution does NOT involve food. :)

I'm in where do I send my F Q. This is the first time I post anything.

craftygater 08-05-2013 05:14 AM

I would like to give this a shot also. I just read the post this morning. I do alot of lurking but not much posting. I started weight loss last month with losing 10 pounds. I have stayed level for the last week. I hope the weight starts to disappear again soon. How do I PM to get the address for the FQ and what kind of FQ should I send? Sorry I just figured out how to PM. It is sent.

createfourpaws 08-05-2013 05:58 AM

Welcome to all the newcomers, we are a fun group of ladies, with lots of advice, chit chat and all.

Well it now looks as if the deadline for signing up for the prize is now passed, anyone else who desires to join us can for the support just not the prize.

Good luck to all who join and I will be working on the next quarters themes so you can start to plan for them.

QuilterMomma 08-05-2013 08:18 AM

Checking in for the week. Just in case I can't get on here. I have so much to do and prepare for this week along with work. None gained or lost this last five days. DH has lost another 6 pounds. I tell ya, men can loose so stinking fast. He eats more than me and wrong foods mind you, and I am so slow taking it off. I know I need to fit in some exercise, but when can I? I could use some nice fall fabrics. Will be just in time to make a bunch of fall runners for the craft fair and I have one presold so I need them to add to my stash. It needs refreshed.

createfourpaws 08-05-2013 01:14 PM

QuilterMomma........you may need to focus more on just moving, not being still for long periods of time. stretch when you can, look at what you can do in 5-10 minute sessions instead of all at once. I try to do stretching before getting out of bed in the mornings, pull my legs up to my chest to stretch the lower back, kinda like reverse sit ups. That is what I keep hearing is better than nothing at all.

I am also planning on taking my arm rope thingie to the office to use in my cube so when I am on the phone I can work my arms. I spend the day talking on the phone for 10 hours a day. I also try to do some of my exercises at my desk when I can, and walk around the office especially now that it is so hot outside.

createfourpaws 08-05-2013 01:25 PM

We have 19 ladies going for the pot, right now I have about 9 fq's in, that were sent in last month. I am doing this from memory as I am waiting for my Office products to be fixed.

Vanogay 08-06-2013 03:49 AM

Okay ladies, get your skinny quarters mailed. Have alot of month ahead of us to lose that weight!! Set a goal - 3 pounds or something like that.
Doing some food education for our Terrific Tuesday - starting with that dreaded carbs. Complex carbs such as those found in whole grains, legumes, fruits and vegetables help to jump start our metabolism. Research shows that a high-carbohydrate diet boosts T3 levels - a thyroid hormone that's responsible for revving up the body's base metabolic rate.(the metabolism rate determines how quickly our food burns out) Carbs are naturally low in calories, having only four calories per gram (that blasted math again!) Compare that to 9 calories in every gram of fat (WOW).
Where you put those carbs makes a big difference - if you add sauces full of butter, cream, or cheese that's over the top on your calorie count. Adding carbs on top of carbs - butter on the potato, oil or creamy dressing all these drive the final count higher. Turning your fruit into pies will dramatically change its calorie count for the worse. Also, with these complex carbs, you automtically boost your fiber intake with them - which we know is helpful in trying to lose weight. Don't fret about overdoing fiber, it takes more than 75 grams per day before adverse effects set in and it's hard to eat that much fiber.
When you begin to eat more fiber-rich carbohydrates, you also should begin to drink more water. Without enough fluids, the extra fiber will backfire on you and make you gassy and constipated. Mayo Clinic says drink 1 8-oz glass before a meal (about 30 minutes before) to help the food as it's being digested. They also say drink a glass first thing in the morning - it helps all the organs 'wake up' and get going. (I just write what I read, I don't always understand it)
Okay, enough schooling today. Get out there and lose weight!! :o

meanmom 08-06-2013 04:00 AM

Wow 19 people in our group. Sounds like a big group this month. Lets go ladies. Summer should an easier time to eat healthy. There are so many yummy fresh veggies and fruits available. We had fresh fish last night. My boys caught them yesterday and we ate them.MMMM! Love fish. We don't eat a lot as we are about 1000 miles from an ocean and it is expensive here. I missed my spinning class yesterday because I had company all day. Had a delicious lunch (not healthy) and a good visit. I made a salted caramel white chocolate cheesecake. OMG to die for. I had a small piece and got rid of the leftovers. Back on track today. I still need to figure it out but I am pretty sure I used up all of my extra weight watcher points for the whole week yesterday.
It looks like rain here today. I am taking my mom out to lunch for her birthday today. SHe will be 86. We are going to Panera. One tip from WW always try to plan what you will order in a restaurant before you get there so you don't overindulge. Everyone have a good week.
Pat

Pam H 08-06-2013 06:34 AM

There are some good choices at Panera. They have the calorie count right up there on the menu board. I used to get a half sandwich/half salad; now I get soup and salad. Try to remember to ask for an apple as your side.
Some good tips there, Kathleen.
Food has been tough on me with my kids home. They will be gone on the 20th. Hopefully my hubby will get a job soon and I can get back to my normal routine.

Beachbound 08-06-2013 07:38 AM

Kathleen, thanks for the great info again this week! It seems like things we all do know but don't put into practice nearly as much as we should. Like drinking water...I have to get better at that, esp since I live in Fl now.

19 in the group is awesome! That may be our biggest group ever.

meanmom 08-07-2013 05:45 AM

Wow Irish, great loss for the month. Everyone keep up the good work. I have been commissioned to make a baby quilt. We agreed on a price, so I had better get my butt moving on it. The baby is almost one. She also is about 3 weeks pregnant with her second and she will want a quilt for that one too. She is hoping for a girl this time. SHe wants to wait until she knows the sex to order that one.
I just had an avocado egg for breakfast. Something I found on Pintrest. You take an avocado half and scoop a little bit out to make a well for an egg. Put it in a dish with a little bit of space for overflow and spray the dish with Pam. Sprinkle to top with some cooked bacon or whatever you want and bake it for 15 to 20 minutes at 400 until the egg is done to your liking. Very yummy and healthy breakfast. I also had some melon and raspberries from the garden.

Tothill 08-07-2013 05:59 AM

My FQ will be arriving Late. I will send Septembers too, so I am not behind for that one. I am taking a class tomorrow night at the quilt shop and will pick them up then. They will be posted first thing Friday morning.

I was doing fairly well until last night. Last night a bag of potato chips landed in my shopping cart. But the last week of the month we will be camping and that means lots of walking, swimming etc.

The tough days will be the days we go to the fair. I will try to pack healthy snacks.

Jim's Gem 08-07-2013 08:59 AM

Oops! I totally forgot to get my FQ in the mail. Heading out in a few min to go the the fair with 2 daughters and grand daughter. This is tough, I don't think they have much of anything "good" to eat there. And this is my once a year to have a little funnel cake. I will try to be good.
Hopefully I will remember to get my FQ's in the mail tomorrow. Sorry
Hope everyone has a blessed day!

CindyA 08-07-2013 12:18 PM

I like the chicken noodle soup at Panera and if memory serves it is not too bad as far as calories and fat.

craftygater 08-08-2013 04:50 AM

Mailed my FQ on Tuesday. Went to the fair last night with daughter and family. Shared elephant ear and rootbeer float and still lost when I got on scale this morning.

meanmom 08-08-2013 02:55 PM

The mailman brought me a present yesterday. The batiks are so pretty. I have tons of batiks upstairs and I don't think any of them are duplicates of what I have. I can't wait to make something with them. I was thinking of making the Josephs Coat that is on here. It was a pattern I was looking at when the tutorial appeared one day. I have a baby quilt to make first as she is paying me well for it. I should go pretty fast. I took my machine in for service today. It needs cleaning and I need a new foot control. Sometimes when I stop sewing the machine keeps going. The machine should be ready on Saturday. The foot control will hopefully be in next week. I had to go to the LQS that I don't like for the service. She is a Janome dealer and is very good. Just don't like the place. My DIL asked my DS to get her a yoga bag while he is here they are too expensive in Japan. I found some good fabric in my stash and need to make the yoga by Tuesday. I do have my old machine to sew on, I just don't like it as well. My DS leaves on Tuesday. He did request we go to Arbys on Tuesday.

Teddybear Lady 08-08-2013 03:16 PM

I was up 1 lb. on Monday, but back down .6 today. I've got to get this under control. I have a family reunion coming up this Saturday. I'll be okay if I stay away from the dessert table. That's my weakness. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

thequilteddove 08-08-2013 03:29 PM

I know I don't participate in the weight loss FQ swap, but I wanted to share my exciting news. I'm down another 5 1/2#s for a total of 36.5#s (I started counting calories April 1st) Bonus good news - I've been down graded from obese to plain old over weight!

I know I'm not skinny and I have no intention of EVER being skinny again, but I'm feeling more & more like the sassy middle age woman I envision myself to be!

Thanks for letting me share :)

You are always welcome here. We especially like good news and 5 1/2 pounds down is good news!

If obese is more than 20% of your ideal body weight overweight, then I am not obese either, but I wish the pounds I do need to lose would leave. I would like to repeat last month's loss, but I know it's not likely. My goal for this month is 2 pounds.

MY FQ is ready to go. I couldn't find my fall bag of fabric but I found a FQ in subdued colors - not a lot of that in my stash.

I have a family reunion Saturday, too. The food will be better this week than the class reunion's was last week. I will be careful. Desserts aren't an issue unless someone makes something gluten free, but good salads are a problem and they aren't usually low calorie. One niece is a chef with a another new certification - she will bring something yummy.

I worked outside today - I feel like I burned some calories. My daylilies aren't getting enough sun so I am replacing them with hostas. Lots of digging and bending. A friend stopped by to help weed a different garden so I had to help there, too.

Have a good, clean eating day.

Anyone is welcome to join us and share. We encourage all. It just means you are not able to win the pot of FQ's.

Been wanting to try a small project with hexies....this is what I just finished tonight.

meanmom 08-09-2013 04:56 AM

I spent some time in the hot tub Thursday night with the girls. It involved quite a bit of wine and laughing. I really needed it. They all came up with a new theory on calories. I am known for my desserts. They decided that once the calories in a dish reach a certain number(really high) your body gets so happy it doesn't count those. Sure wish this was true. I am making a heaven and hell cake for my mom's birthday party on Sunday. Devils food, layered with angel food, filled with peanut butter mousse and topped with ganache.(it will be gluten free). No calories in that is there?
I worked on a yoga bag yesterday. It is coming out nice. I am using an old sewing machine as mine is in for a tune up. I sure miss my good machine. It is so much nicer to use. I can't wait to get it back!
Healthy eating to all. Watch all those sneaky calories at parties. Sometimes the things we think are ok to eat have a lot of hidden stuff in them.

I'm an October girl myself. I love the fall. It's my nesting time and I get more sewing done. Just too much running in the spring and summer.

irishrose 08-09-2013 05:48 PM

The cake looks wonderful. Too bad I have a caramel apple cake with penuche icing already started for tomorrow. I know two people who would enjoy the Heaven and hell cake. Hmm.

I want this quilt that needs expanding off my machine so I can do something fun. I worked on it last night, but it hurt my back so I didn't get far.

Shadowirish, your basket is adorable. What do you intend to use it for?

Early to bed tonight so I can stay awake driving tomorrow. I am losing weight and getting healthier.

Countrymaid, I also lose weight better in the fall. I use to do ok in the summer, but since I stay so dry all the time with Sjogrens', I always want ice cream. I never in the past, before this became active, was much of an ice cream eater.

Shadowirish 08-09-2013 06:33 PM

Thanks Irishrose. Right now its a thread catcher beside my living room chair, don't rightly know yet where it wants to call home.

junebillie, it was pretty easy to do. This is where I found it.

So sorry ladies, I have to withdraw. I was going to get my fq posted today (late I realize), when my dh was injured at work. Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow.

I am a stress eater and my IBS flares up when I am stressed.

I will not be able to make a meaningful contribution to this thread or my own weigh loss journey this month.

I did however hear that Batiks will be up for grabs in a month or so, and I just saw a trunk show of Cantik Batiks. Just loved them. Absolutely wonderful for landscape quilts.

I went to the gym last night and worked out with weights for the first time in months. I'm a little sore, but not too bad. My shoulder hurts, I guess I should ice it for a few minutes. ? I should probably do the weights and then yoga, so I'm stretched out!:)

createfourpaws 08-10-2013 02:46 AM

Good Morning ladies..... hope you all have had a good week. My week has been up and down. My weight is finally heading in the right direction. I am excited about that. Have a busy weekend ahead of me, just have to make sure that i remember to eat the right things and not just grab something just to eat.

Have several projects to work on this weekend and some other stuff to do that I don't want to do. Plus I have to....need to plan meals for the week, good thing it will be a short work week. Then next weekend have a conference to go to.

tothill.........sorry to hear about your hubby, still check in with us you can get all the encouragement to help you not be that stress eater.

Vanogay 08-10-2013 03:02 AM

Good morning everyone. Today starts my 'stress' time. I am a member of our county fair board and today starts all the pre-activity before fair opens on Thursday. I'll be working with the take ins and judging from this morning through Wednesday afternoon. They cook for us, so I'll have to watch what I eat (usually don't eat a heavy meal in the middle of the day, saving that for about 5:30 each day) Cause, of course, if I eat that early, I still have to cook for hubby when I get home. Really need to watch.
My personal Satisfying Saturday while I am working will stay in my mind's eye -- I am going to keep my scales with me (right up front in my mind) and hanging on to the numbers. If I want the scale to show a 3 pound loss, that's the number I'll keep in my mind, but more than likely it'll be just a 1 pound LOSS number. During the judging of all those cakes and pies, we are always trying them out with the judges - but this year, it's a big NO-NO for me! I'll hope there will be lots of chocolate - I really am not much for chocolate cakes or cookies - but the other flavors, ho boy! Eat healthy everyone and keep hydrated (oh, I'll have to remember to take water with me...)

meanmom 08-10-2013 05:09 AM

Tothill. So sorry to hear about your DH. My prayers are with you for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.
My Dh just came home with 1 1/2 dozen donuts. I don't really like them but I ate one so far. Hopefully the boys will get up soon and finish them before I start picking on them again. One isn't too bad but more could be a disaster. I have a house full of guests again and I love to cook so i will have to be careful of what we have. I have a busy weekend this weekend. I hope to squeeze in some exercise somewhere. My DS who is here from JApan leaves on Tuesday hopefully things will calm down a little bit around here then. It seems like things have been really hectic here for months. I leave for Myrtle Beach with my 2 SIL on Saturday. Hopefully we can relax. I am going to teach them and 2 neighbor ladies how to make a professional tote while we are there. Other than that we don't have any plans. Should be fun.
Eat healthy, drink lots of water. Have fun!
Pat

Jim's Gem 08-10-2013 12:27 PM

Hi All!!
I got my two FQ's in the mail yesterday to cover August and September.
My poor Bernina has been in the shop since the 14th of June. They had it 5 weeks without letting me know what it needed to fix it. Now the part is on back order. I was not a happy camper. The intention was that it would have been fixed and ready for me to pick up when I got back in town after being gone 5 weeks.
I pulled out my old Pfaff and have whipped up 5 quilt tops. One is for a friend that gave her timeshare points for a get together, another is a "Challenge" quilt from my quilting group and 3 are from packets of 7 FQ's that I found at Tuesday Morning for only $2.99. I'm going to donate those to my guild for children who need a hug.
I put on several pounds from my being on the road for so long. So far, I have not really taken much off. It's depressing. I do need to work harder at this!
Hope you all have a blessed weekend!!!
