I just finished up making stuffed green peppers for the freezer (for this winter) and the whole house smells so good! Not only that but I have squash in the oven and that is smelling up the house. It is chilly out and there is snow a'comin' and right now, in our home, all's well with the world! Edie

Ohhhh, I love stuffed peppers. I bet the house does smell wonderful.

Pzazz 10-09-2009 04:24 PM

Edie....we had a wee taste this afternoon of the snow heading your way. Didn't amount to much...I hope it doesnt' for you either. The chill has certainly got me going in the kitchen as well....tomorrow is freezing tomatoes, cooking/canning pumkin. Hopefully a bit of sewing as well.

Our plan for dinner tomorrow is brocolli cheese soup and hot fresh bread. Perfect for a cold chilly day!

We are suppose to get some of that "S" stuff Monday  And then by Friday back up in the 60's ! Go figure :?

I love the snow and winter is my favorite season. I am so jealous.

kd124 10-09-2009 08:58 PM

Not yet, I still have work to do outside. We still have some veggies growing and even some blooms on the cukes. Now we are busy harvesting grapes. We have been having a beautiful weather which means I haven't been able to quilt much lately.

Edie 10-10-2009 02:26 AM

Oh my Golly! It is 5:19 AM and there is snow on the ground! Arrrrgggghhh! Good thing we got the grass seed down the other day. Now I have a perfect excuse to sit and sew ALL day long! I was starting a quilt for my husband and me, but then remembered our son's best friend and wife are having a baby in December, so I will make one! Nine twelve inch blocks with sashing and a border, hand quilt and tie. I have all the ingredients right here in my sash. My last three quilts are being done with my stash. Use 'em up and buy some more. I love buying fat and flat quarters. I have only made one quilt by strict pattern. All the rest of them each square in the blocks mean something. Which is why I write a book with each quilt so whoever or is it whomever gets the quilt knows the true method of my madness.

Going out in a little while to have coffee with the sister from Danbury, Wisc who is a fantastic quilter. She does her own designing. Actually, right now she is making curtains out of "Chinese Coin" that she made completely by hand - No machine! She doesn't like to work with a machine. She likes to have her little cookie tin (the kind that the Danish Cookies come in) and take it wherever she goes - she says her hands are more portable than a sewing machine.

So just to let you know what St. Paul is doing right now - IT'S SNOWING!! Edie

Oh how I love this "small world" we live in, Edie. My very best friend, matron of honour at our wedding, lives in Danbury. She and her hubby bought a beautiful piece of property on a lake there when they retired.

Our bit of snow from yesterday has already gone...more coming this afternoon. Hubby is away to watch daughter in CC running meet, so I am hoping to get a bit of sewing done in between processing veggies. Might even go pull the last of the beets from the garden. Or the old body might give out before my ambitious ideas are done. LOL

Edie 10-10-2009 05:51 AM

My sister lives on Lake Minerva! Just had coffee with her. In town to help the Mother (almost 93)! She still quilts! Mom that is.

I froze beets the other day - never knew you could until I found out you have to cook them through. Have you ever had buttered beets with a dollop of sour cream. Really good!

Have pretty well done all the freezing I can this year. We have to get a side of beef pretty soon. We had a Charolais/Limousin that last time - good but we like the Angus/Hereford the best. Now we just have to find one good producer, and a good butcher. I will be helping a friend of mine clean deer come November. We usually end up with a whole deer by the time I am through helping. I enjoy cleaning the deer - no bones, no tallow, just pure, unadulterated no cholesterol meat!

Edie 10-10-2009 08:08 AM

My house still smells good from the 4 big loaves of Zuccini Bread from yesterday.... Love that stuff! But still have 2 big zuccini's to use.

kd124 10-11-2009 09:38 PM

Ok, now the colder weather is here. We have to pick any remaining tomatoes, 2 rows of green beans, peppers, cukes and zucchini. Would you believe we still have blossoms on the green peppers? I saw them today when I went to pick 3 for stuffed peppers tonight. They were yummy! Not to mention pulling the plants. Oh yeah---------the grapes!!!!!! Lots of grapes!! That means lots of juice. We have already picked quite a few. My sis said tonight we will have to get the beans tomorrow, then I reminded her it's my day to watch her grandchildren!! Just checked--supposed to be 39 degrees tonight then be warmer at nights for a few days. Hope that is true. Our crop was so good this year we don't have much room left in the freezer, not to mention all the canning, and we have a pretty small garden.

Well, the Twins lost - The Vikings won, and it is snowing again! I have a funny feeling we are going to have snow for Hallowe'en like we did back in '92! (Not 1892!) Worked out in the yard Saturday and Sunday, battening down the hatches. We have a Ginkgo tree and they are the most beautiful trees, buuuuuutttt, when the leaves come down, they come down in one felled swoop! Only problem being that for the past two years they are still green and getting them up is like raking wet leather! Heavy is not the word for it. When they are dried up and fall off naturally, no problem, but this coming down green is something else. Got up yesterday morning to let the dog out and brought her in. An hour later, all the leaves were off the tree, the back yard had a carpet of ginkgo leaves over the whole yard. You can't mow them up and you can't vacuum them up, too green, but you can rake them up and hand bag them. We had two ultra huge bags full and it took the two of us to lift the bags and put them in the SU-V to take to the compost place. So I guess I can say, "Well, that's done for another year", but the tree didn't have a chance to turn yellow, which is the most beautiful yellow. It goes so well with the Birch trees we have out front. They are still hanging on! I need all the Birch leaves to supply neighbors with covering for their roses, etc. They are perfect for a winter cover.

So, this morning I get up to see what all of you are up to for the day and peek out the window - BIG MISTAKE!!!! SNOW! I hate winter jackets with a passion. AM holding off as long as I can, but right now even the hoodie doesn't keep me warm.

Whomped up a big cauldron of Chicken Noodle Vegetable soup. Now that was good! Warmed the innards just fine. Have a good day! Edie

amma 10-12-2009 08:37 AM

Yum!!! I can smell all of that cooking!!! Sorry about the snow...but it seems like you are all tucked in nicely with plenty of good things to eat :D :D :D

Edie 10-12-2009 09:03 AM

We have two trellises of grapes - not too hot this year - but boy can we get some good wine out of those little purple buggers!!!!!!!! Edie

RedGarnet222 10-13-2009 08:16 AM

The weather has begun it's drizzling rain. :( It is so cold today that I have to stay in. The good thing is all the outside fall clean up was finished this last weekend. Oh Yeah!! Everything is in, put away and safe from the storms.

I love the smells of fall/winter walking onto someone's house. So welcoming, it makes you feel so happy and content, almost excited about the holiday months to come. Huh??

I want to pull out some of my fall decorating stuff this week and play. I got it all cleaned and shiny last week. Now comes the fun part. :D

Our work is taking part in the United Way's local chili and soup cook-off today. We have 2 big roasters full of chili, and 2 of chicken and wild rice soup. Boy does it smell GOOOD in here!!! AND we get to wear our jammies at work to help promote the function as our theme is "Lazy day soup & chili".
