That was awesome ~ and what a beautiful tree it is. It's wonderful that they did that! Thanks for posting!

wordpaintervs 10-19-2012 10:04 PM

thanks for posting about the tree. i'm glad you liked seeing it finding its new home. Made me wish I had been there to watch it with that community. Nice to see people supporting making something like that happen. I was glad I got to see it happen.

Glad they saved this tree. I have a love affair with trees, and I hope this one continues to live another one hundred or more years. I hope it didn't go into shock with all that moving. Thank you so much for sharing this. Gives me hope for the world if we have people who love trees. Blessings.....

Also I feel great things will happen for those people, and what ever comes their way, they will be able to handle, the Lord is with them!

I once investigated to a place without a lot of tall trees, but decided against. That is when I realized I want to have tall trees around me. Trees do something for my soul.

DH just told me he wished they done that in Martinsburg, WV to a 600 yr old tree, instead of destroying it for a mall.

Quilt Novice 10-20-2012 05:52 PM

Very cool! Thanks for posting. I needed that.

Sarah in Brooklyn 10-20-2012 06:02 PM

That was wonderful! So much more loving and compassionate than Los Angeles, where they cut down 400 mature trees to make room for the space shuttle to move down urban streets. Go League City!

We had a similar situation in our parish. A beautful historic oak tree was in danger of being destroyed for expansion of a highway. The owner cause a stir when he learned that the tree on his property would be chopped down. It was agreed that the tree would be moved. A company of home movers did the work. The tree "Mr. Al" is not thriving on a piece of land there all travelers through our beautiful state can admire it.

You meant NOW thriving, I hope!

This is wonderful. Makes me wonder how old the live oak was in my daughters front yard in GA. It was half again as big around as that one.

kellen46 10-21-2012 07:22 AM

This would make a great ad for Caterpillar tractors...did you see how those front loaders pulled the assembly along.

gramquilter2 10-21-2012 08:12 AM

Wow, that is a totally awesome move. It is amazing to me that you can actually do something like this.

icon17 10-21-2012 08:31 AM

wordpaintervs 10-21-2012 10:37 AM

so glad I posted this and all of you got to enjoy seeing it. It sure put a big lump in my throat, almost like a story I could write...about helping someone along lives way...some by tugging them along, some by lifting them up, some by pushing, but in totality...all loving enough to do whatever part they needed to make life better. I am so glad all of you liked this posting. God bless you and yours.

What a beautiful video, I live not far from League City and had not heard of this.

DJinSC 10-21-2012 05:49 PM

That was awesome. Awesome! Thank you so much for sharing. I'm passing this on . . .

KathyPhillips 10-21-2012 08:37 PM

I live in Galveston, TX, and the city recently moved an oak tree that was over 100 yrs. old. They used a company that used the similar procedures to move it. Amazing! I never thought that could be done.

wordpaintervs 10-22-2012 10:43 AM

craftymatt2 10-22-2012 03:03 PM

That surely was SPECTACULAR!!!

wordpaintervs 10-25-2012 10:38 AM

so glad you liked the video. I'd love to live out in the country with trees all around. My hubby wouldn't ...he always thinks of trees blowing over and falling on the house. We had a small redwood the wind blew over, (not in our yard) and it took out a small part of the back fence from our backyard neighbor. Man came over and apologised and took care of all the repairs plus cutting the tree the rest of the way down. We appreciated his honesty and help. We are in our early 70's and it would have been harder on us if he hadn't done what was right.
