Baby Prep!

2 Attachment(s)
After waiting 10 years and thinking it may never happen, I am going to be a grandmother! And not just one, but two. Both my DD and my DIL are expecting two months apart next spring! Today I made these diapers for my daughter who is going to cloth diaper.

Shoot, they posted sideways!

Tartan 08-19-2018 02:46 PM

Congratulations X 2! Cute diapers!

Barb in Louisiana 08-19-2018 02:48 PM

Cute diapers. I never thought about putting elastic in them.

Jingle 08-19-2018 02:58 PM

Congratulations.

They will need to be very thick and don't forget the rubber pants. I had to use them for all three of mine. Disposables would have been my go to.

Battle Axe 08-19-2018 03:22 PM

Congrats! Prayers for healthy babies.

NZquilter 08-19-2018 03:59 PM

So cute! (The skunks are going to be fitting, lol!) I admire any mom who uses cloth diapers.

SillySusan 08-19-2018 04:07 PM

How wonderful!! Congrats to you and the whole family! The diapers are super great! Do you have a pattern?

Sandra in Minnesota 08-19-2018 04:26 PM

Congratulations!!

JJBlaine 08-19-2018 06:27 PM

Congratulations! I too, am eagerly awaiting my first grandchild after thinking it wasn't going to happen (My boys are 30 & 31), so I can relate to your excitement. I adore the diapers you made. Did you use a pattern, and, if so, where can I get it?

I haven't made diapers yet, but I did make up several dozen reusable baby wipes-just 10" squares of flannel that I serged all the way around. If your daughter is using cloth diapers, she might also like reusable wipes too.

SusieQOH 08-19-2018 06:37 PM

Congratulations, SBG!!!
I'm envious- my only grands are cats and dogs !!
Patiently waiting............... :D

Jingle, these are the rubber pants. They are diaper covers made out of waterproof PUL fabric with a soft cotton lining. You can use them over any cloth diaper, but I also made soaker pads to go inside. They are 2 layers of fleece inside of Birdseye cotton diapering fabric. Super thick.

I did use a pattern. It’s by “Green Pepper”, #F708. I bought it at JoAnns. You can probably order it online too.

Thats a great idea! I need to make a bunch of those.

Congratulations, Sewbizgirl and JJBlaine.

I, too, am patiently waiting for a grandchild.

LOL, NZ! Tooo funny.

I cloth diapered all three of my kids, after my first developed horrendous rashes from the chemicals in disposables. Cotton diapers are so nice! I had two in cloth diapers at one time for about a year. I’m really happy my DD is going that route. DIL wants to use disposables.

Hope you get one, Connie!

What exciting news SBG...and adorable diapers. My DIL used them for the second baby and I think they were pricey to purchase.

luvstoquilt 08-20-2018 04:44 AM

My youngest grandkids are now 13 and 15. I wish we could start over. It goes so fast. My 15 year old is in driver’s ed and he drove me around all weekend. It is so funny, he will go anywhere if I will let him drive.

I am so happy for you SBG and JJ. It is so exciting and I hope you both live close enough to them to really get the fabulous enjoyment they bring. My kids weren’t in a hurry either. One waited 5 years and the other 7. It has been well worth the wait.

osewme 08-20-2018 04:59 AM

Congratulations! I bet you are really going to be sewing up a storm now. Love the diaper covers & the fact that one mom will be going with cloth diapers. When our DD was born disposable diapers were just getting popular. I used cloth ones for her.

rryder 08-20-2018 05:56 AM

Congratulations, Sewbiz! Those rubber pants are cute and having the absorbent pads in them to help contain any diaper spills is a great idea!

Have fun, they grow up fast!

Rob

oksewglad 08-20-2018 06:09 AM

Sew cute, SBG! These are going to be well used. Wish this PUL fabric was available 17 years ago for our first Grand.

leonf 08-20-2018 08:07 AM

My M-I-L was 76 when we told her she was going to be a grandmother. She was shocked. but wore the role well.

Jordan 08-20-2018 10:02 AM

Congratulations! Wishing you happiness at being blessed twice with 2 healthy babies. Diapers are adorable and will be so useful for the new Mothers.

Endora 09-03-2018 10:58 AM

Congratulations to you, Sewbiz!

Wow, today's cloth diapers sure have grown-up and changed compared to the ones I used on my kids. They don't even resemble cloth diapers anymore. My kids sported big safety pins on their diapers, and big balloon rubber pants over top!

I sooooo feel your joy and excitement, as you know. After waiting six years, and watching them suffer umpteen heartbreaks month after month, Mother's Day after Mother's Day, too many baby shower invitations to count, and 3 failed IUI attempts, we have all been just crazy cuckoo happy about the twins coming!!! Double blessings coming your way as well, though not the same day--I can't say enough how happy I am for you!

PS Isn't it fun to sew for grands?? I'll check out that pattern for cloth diapers. I'm not sure what they'll be using; probably disposables in the beginning during overwhelm??

I'm so happy for you, too, Zozee! And happy for the parents. When you see the babies, it will be so worth the wait! I am sewing and knitting because I have to do something during this long, long wait! Baby planning... :o

plainpat 09-08-2018 02:20 PM

So happy for you. Maybe a few knitted hats, like they want newborns to wear. We’re expecting a 2nd Great Grandbaby this winter. Our little family of 2 DDS & 3 Grkids is growing. Slowly for sure, but this will be DD’s first Grchild,so lots of happiness for all.
I love looking at baby needs & clothes.

Jane Quilter 09-08-2018 06:42 PM

congrats on new babies. You are going to love being a Grandma.

sewbizgirl 09-08-2018 08:19 PM

Thanks!

Plainpat, congrats on the second GGB! What a wonderful legacy.

Rhonda K 09-09-2018 05:45 AM

Congrats on the Double Fun! There is nothing like those baby snuggle times for Grandma!

JuneBillie 09-11-2018 05:39 AM

Bonnie,
I just seen this. Oh Congratulations!! That is just wonderful, and I know you are going to be one happy grandma.

Rose_P 09-15-2018 07:46 PM

I'm late, but just saw this. Congrats! Happy for you! You will love being a grandma! The diaper covers are cute and very useful.

Our first grandson finally arrived after our son was married 13 years. Before grandson #1 was 5 we sold our house and moved to be near him because we thought he'd surely be the only one we'd have. Then a couple of years later our second son became a father at age 40, so we're back to travelling several hours to see that one. One of my nieces had twins 36 hours after her SIL had a baby. Her in-laws had a bit of a challenge trying to be in both Texas and Connecticut at the same time. I hope yours live near you!

Rose_P 09-15-2018 08:11 PM

Just remembered this. If either baby is a boy, you have to make 'Wee Wee Wigwams"! Here's a method: https://makeit-loveit.com/wee-wee-wigwam

DJ 09-15-2018 08:26 PM

What wonderful news! You will be very busy making wonderful things for the little ones. Also busy lovin' on 'em!

sewbizgirl 09-16-2018 06:48 AM

Thanks ladies! Both of my grandbabies (cousins) will be born 2 months apart in the same town. Now I am faced with a dilemma... I would like to be available to provide day care for the babies when their moms go back to work. That would mean either moving to their town (3.5 hours from where we live now), or buying or renting a house in their town to live in part time. We really don't want to sell our house back home. So... what to do? We are praying about it. It would mean my giving up my job teaching at the gym, which I love, but I will love my grandbabies more.

The pee pee teepees are too funny. I agree about them being rockets!
