Aren't backpacks inconvenient when you need to get something out of it? Also, isn't it easy pickin's for a thief? There's your stuff behind you! All they've got to do is unzip it. I'd think a cross-body bag with the contents under your arm a lot safer and handier for retrieving things you need.

ByAnnie.com has several patterns for backpack purses... very cute! There are different sizes. I want to make one for myself one of these days.

Here is the page from the ByAnnie site, for the full size backpack: http://www.byannie.com/patterns/travel-handmade/got-your-back-2 And this one is for the smaller backpack, more purse size: http://www.byannie.com/patterns/purs...s/back-at-ya-2 |
Why not try a bag with a cross body strap? Make it adjustable so you could shorten it and carry as a 'regular' shoulder bag if you want, but extended, it is very comfortable cross body. My kids do this whenever we are out for a full day and one day I tried it with a smaller messenger bag and fell in love with it! No constantly pulling it up, no problem when bending over and it distributed the weight very nicely.

I always use a backpack leather purse, have never made one though. It is perfect for keeping the weight centered on the body. I had a disc op. years ago, and have never carried a "regular" purse since.

I tried the Ameribag Healthy Back, but it wasn't for me. My massage therapist insisted I get a crossbody bag. I like the Vera Bradley Hipster - great size and a lot of pockets. ebay has a huge selection. The Vera Bradley site has some in solids, too. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...&_sacat=169291

I love my backpack! I've been wanting one for years, with a really bad back, carrying a regular purse made it worse plus hubby is in wheelchair and I need to push him so makes it easier. There is a company online that makes horse supplies, I chose it because a friend bought one similar 10 yrs ago and it still is holding up! If your interested I can find the address, believe it's Herrshners
