Ball of foil in dryer?

I have read that a ball of crunched up aluminum foil is a good substitute for dryer sheets. I am skeptical. Has anyone tried this? Does it work?

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I'm with you ... sitting in the skeptical camp! :D

I quit using dryer sheets years ago, and now, just use the spikey balls.

Hmmm... dunno.

I did pick up some wool balls the other day but I haven't done any tests with them. Maybe I should put them in with the laundry supplies!

I'm sensitive to a lot of scents, but my hubby likes the laundry to smell nice. I can handle the original Bounce scent.

I don't like using the drier sheets with my yardage. Typically I will dry the load for about 20 minutes, take out any fabric, and then put in the sheet.

I never heard of that. I use the wool dryer balls instead of sheets. They work pretty well

Yes, I've done the alum. foil trick in the winter when static electricity is a real pain. It works! It isn't a softener, though. For softening, I use a half-cup of vinegar in the rinse water.

I haven't heard of the foil thing. I only use dryer sheets in the winter for static electricity on some clothes.

Never tried. A buckle from a pair of overalls came loose in the dryer once and caused a short circuit. I'm not taking any chances on that happening again.

That's interesting. Think I'll try it this winter. I have woolen balls that work most of the time except in the winter when everything dries out (I live in Vermont).

Just started using the wool dryer balls but have yet to see how they perform through the winter. So far, I would give them the thumbs up!

I've been doing that a long time ago!
It seems to work as well as dryer sheets. But maybe my impression of reduced static was caused by some weird placebo effect.
