Has anyone had this and was it successful? I have just had another steroid shot and a joint fusion is said to be the next step.

I've had fusion of several joints in my ankles and feet, but I don't know where a basal joint fusion would be.

Wherever it is, I hope you get relief from your distress. |
I think it's at the base of the thumb and has to do with carpel tunnel.

I am sorry to confuse everyone as this may not be the basal joint. I have osteoarthritis in the hands and alot of pain and inflammation right now in the top joint of the thumb which has spread up the thumb base. The shot was placed on the top and middle of the thumb. As I understand it the fusion would be the two joints in the thumb. Does this make sense?

I had never heard of the basal joint. I just Googled it. You are correct. What exactly do you need to know about fusing? I think feet and hands are too different for me answer many questions, but I will try if I know what you want. The fusion does repair the damage done by the arthritis, but it doesn't take away the arthritis.

I'll try and keep this short, I had very bad OA in my big toe joint, very painful and fused from bone spurs. Went to 2 foot Doctors, both wanted to fuse it. It was already fused and I was having a hard time walking and was walking on the side of my foot, which made my little toe hurt. Thur the internet I found out about big toe joint replacement, well I found a doctor about an hour away, had the surgery last Jan and have been pain free ever since. Now I can wear shoes other than tennis shoes. I know this is your hand, but can't they do a joint replacement? I'd hate to lose any use of my hands.

yes, they can do joint replacements in the hands. I know someone who does a lot of sewing and when her fingers began to give her a lot of pain and would not function properly, she went to a hand specialist and had joints replaced. They are as good as new.
