bathtub refit
 

We are desperately in need of bathroom repairs.
DH is wanting the bathtub refit to save $$$....where they just put new bathtub over the old. Has anyone had this done and if you did, how did you like/dislike it?

I have a friend who used Bathfitters to redo a stall shower and they are very pleased with the result. Same idea. They put an insert over the old shower.

Wouldn't this mean that any problems in the walls with the plumbing would still be there? I would rather have things opened up and inspected for potential problems rather than save a few dollars.

I saw a show on remodeling a house and they took out one of the slip on's and there was a horrid black tub beneath. For a split second i thought of doing that in our horrid bathroom prior to putting house up for sale. Couldn't do it.
now, i've never seen one or used one so really can't comment on them much.

Excelent point! You want to eliminate major and potential issues prior to covering up the problem

Exactly, dunster! If there are any problems with the walls or plumbing, you're just going to cover them up. When we bought our house someone had used a coating on the shower in the master bath. After about a year, it literally peeled off in strips. We had to get the whole shower redone before any problems developed. When we have it redone, we ripped everything out so that we could see how things looked.

A friend at the Y said that the bathroom refit was frightfully expensive (for our area, maybe). Do not know anyone who has actually had a refit done.

We thought of doing a refit like you're talking about in our vacation home, but carolynjo is correct. It is way expensive. We didn't do it as we figured we could live with the existing colors for the amount of time we're there.
