related to the "would you go back to the 'good old days' thread:

The search is on to find shopkeepers in a variety of trades to travel back to the 1870s to experience the birth of the British High Street. They'll be setting up in an existing parade of shops that has been restored to the specifications of the Victorian era. Each will run their shop as authentically as possible. But they will have to master more than corsets, candle-making and crumpets because each trade will be fast-forwarded through a century of change in which the shopkeepers will have to run their shops in six key eras of British history.

The makers of Edwardian Country House, Who Do You Think You Are? and New Tricks are looking for shopkeeping families to take part in this unique living history experience for BBC ONE.

Our shopkeepers will begin their experience in Victorian Britain at the birth of the High Street. Like the retailers before them, they'll make much of their produce on-site and will introduce modern customers to old-fashioned personal service.

I remember a show that put a family into one of the old Victorian houses and they had to live by the guidelines of the days gone by. It really explained why there was a day of the week dedicated to a certain housekeeping activitiy. It took forever given the tools and the conditions.

It made me appreciate all that I have today.
