BBQ season coming up soon (funny)

BBQ RULES
We are about to enter the BBQ season. Therefore it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking activity . When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion:

Routine...
(1) The woman buys the food.
(2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables, and makes dessert.
(3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill - beer in hand.
(4) The woman remains outside the compulsory three meter exclusion zone where the exuberance of testosterone and other manly bonding activities can take place without the interference of the woman.

Here comes the important part:
(5) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL.

More routine....
(6) The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery.
(7) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is looking great. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he flips the meat

Important again:
(8) THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN.

More routine...
(9) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauces, and brings them to the table.
(10) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.

And most important of all:
(11) Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIM for his cooking efforts.
(12) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed ' her night off ' and, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there's just no pleasing some women!

QuiltnNan 01-14-2012 09:48 AM

Scissor Queen 01-14-2012 11:30 AM

Not at my house.

#1 Sensible woman takes over the whole thing.

Panchita 01-14-2012 02:04 PM

Oh it definitely is the truth.

But I get a kick out of seeing him so happy that he cooked something well (he - genuinely - has low self-confidence with cooking, which I'm working on changing over time...)

But oh yeah I hear ya!! :)

Thanks Barb!

Lol funny!

We don't BBQ, we smoke, and there's quite a bit more effort that goes into smoking. I gladly turn the duties over to my husband, who will put the meat on the smoker at midnight and get up at 6 am to check it.

Quiltaddict 01-14-2012 11:18 PM

That is so funny and so true.

Oh I have so been there, done that. I just pat the major dude on the back and smile at him. When company leaves, he cleans the kitchen. lol

That's a hoot. We have a grill on the back deck. My husband will not bbq. I've used it a few times but now it just sits there. I may make a planter out of it.

we use our grill year around here. it sits on the deck
i shovel the snow off the deck. and the majority of the
time i am the one using the grill. lol. he does a
little bit. but that is the way it goes here too.

Grilling for the two of us is handled by me. Husband tends to cook things to a crispy nature. When entire family gets together for cookout our SIL does the grilling. He is great and even gets the meat ready whether it is hamburgers, steaks, chicken etc. Women handle sides unless he is also grilling veggies. He does an excellent job.

Just read this to DH!! He laughed through the whole story then said "you know, there's a lot of truth to that!!". LOL

quiltmau 01-15-2012 10:24 AM

my husband does it all-I MAY-not always-make the salad. He also cleans up.

I am keeping him!!!

Love this! Definitely sending it on to my girlfriend whose husband brags every time he "takes over the cooking" by barbecuing to give her a "night off"!

caspharm 01-16-2012 08:29 AM

Very funny!

New Quilter 01-16-2012 08:42 AM

This is so funny...this is why my friend just does the barbeque herself in the first place...Naomi

Kazahleenah 01-16-2012 09:00 AM

labtechkty 01-16-2012 01:44 PM

to true....

My BFF loves to cook, grilling however is something he is working on (so he says). Mostly he grills leather. But tonight he made chicken n dumplings from scratch - mmmmm yummy. So anyhew we limit the grilling time.

writerwomen 01-16-2012 08:15 PM

So glad to hear I'm not alone. My husband can over cook or undercook meat on the grill and no matter how it is I just can't understand and I need to stay out of his business. My rule- cook it ahead before he gets home- checking meat by flashlight isn't fun
