Bernina Q16

What do you guys think of the new Bernina mid-arms? They seem quite reasonably priced. I'm also thinking about a Hand I Quilter mid-arm. Any options would be appreciated.

I can't speak to the Bernina mid-arms, although I have heard very good things about them. My mid-arm is a Babylock Regent which is the same as the Handiquilter Capri. My machine is fabulous. It has an 18" arm, a stitch regulator built into the table, and really good lighting. It makes a beautiful stitch, and is very easy to use. It is on a table which is 36 x 30, and I added two side extensions for an additional 18" on each side. The table is height adjustable, and casters are available. I would suggest that you try several mid-arms (if you can) and compare for yourself. Best of luck!

A fellow quilt guild member (and friend) loves her Q20...she enters her work in quilt shows and does fabulous work. You can check her out at www.sarahannsmith.com
I opted for a long arm over a mid arm but I enjoy driving the machine versus moving the fabric.

I have a friend in Florida who purchased a q20 when they first came out and she loves it. She previously had an APQS George and had lots of trouble. The area rep had no clue about this machine so she was in the phone many times with one of the owners. She sold it and purchased the Bernina q20 and has had no problems whatsoever.

Whichever one of the mid-arm machines someone wants, I suggest they visit dealers, ask tons of questions and try it out more than a few minutes. Make sure it fits how you sit, how you sew, etc. I definitely would choose the q20 if I was to buy one, and I’m not a Bernina or nothing person even though I own 2 sewing machines - I also own a wonderful Babylock and an .older but super Viking, And all those vintage Singers!!!
