You just might be on to something here. I remember churning butter on the porch, that took a lot of arm movements. Picking up and carrying wood to the stoves in the house, lifting heavy wood.
Stirring clothes in the big pot out over the fire and then having to squeeze the water out of them. Hoeing the garden. Picking up this or that, sweeping, etc. Scrubbing walls, scrubbing clothing on the torture board.
Now I'm trying to go back in my memory to see how many of my female relatives had underarm jiggle...hard to do because none of them would have ever left the house without being "decently" covered to the elbow or wrist.

I have a Betty Crocker New Picture Cookbook, I think it came out about 1961 or so. I collect cookbooks, but this one is my go-to cookbook, still. There is a recipe in there for Hamburger Stroganoff that is absolutely delicious! This cookbook is well worn with chocolate stains on the pages where my girls made those No Bake Cookies. I'm saving it for them one of these years, LOL!
There are many recipe sites out there, and I use them frequently, but it's sure nice to still be able to browse a cookbook in my collection. I love to take one of them with me when I go to dr appts and do the "sit and wait" thing. Time goes by pretty swiftly when I am looking through recipes to try. The cookbooks put out by the Junior Leagues around the nation in past years have some great recipes in them, just good home cooking, tried and true recipes.

I goto my Betty Crocker cookbook back in 1952 when I got married. Love it and still use it often

I have a BC cookbook that was created in the 60s. It's the BEST cookbook ever. I collect a lot of books, but always seem to go back to this one!!!! Too bad they don't recreate it -- a retro thing, considering a lot of the highschools don't teach home ec anymore!!!!
