A Mirror or a 2-Way Glass?

How can you tell when you are in a room, restroom,
motel etc. with a mirror or a 2-way glass?

Here's how: I thought it was quite interesting! And I
know in about 30 seconds you're going to do what I did
and find the nearest mirror.

Do you know how to determine if a mirror is 2-way or
not? A policewoman who travels all over the US and
gives seminars and techniques for businesswomen passed
this on.

When we visit toilets, bathrooms, hotel rooms,
changing rooms, etc., how many of you know for sure
that the seemingly ordinary mirror hanging on the wall
is a real mirror, or actually a 2-way mirror (i.e.,
they can see you, but you can't see them)? There have
been many cases of people installing 2-way mirrors in
female changing rooms . It is very difficult to
positively identify the surface by looking at it.

So, how do we determine with any amount of certainty
what type of mirror we are looking at?

Just conduct this simple test: Place the tip of your
fingernail against the reflective surface and if there
is a GAP between your fingernail and the image of the
nail, then it is GENUINE mirror. However, if your
fingernail DIRECTLY TOUCHES the image of your nail,
then BEWARE! IT IS A 2-WAY MIRROR!

"No Space, Leave the Place" So remember, every time
you see a mirror, do the "fingernail test." It doesn't
cost you anything.

REMEMBER. No Space, Leave the Place:

2-WAY GLASS...no gap between finger and reflection - see the first image

MIRROR...has gap between finger and reflection - see the second image

okay, nevermind...I had to think about it a bit ;-)

ptquilts 11-09-2010 07:29 AM

let me see, check mirror, look for bedbugs, use black light to check for bodily fluids, watch out for people with knives who cut your ankles as you open your car door in the mall parking lot..... nah, I think I'll just stay home. Pretty sure there are no 2 way mirrors in my house...

DebraK 11-09-2010 07:30 AM

eww, I hadn't heard about the ankle thing ;-/

nativetexan 11-09-2010 07:38 AM

i watched house hunters last night and a young girl was looking at condos and one had a vent/fan in the upper wall that was on at all times. ugly thing. all i thought was "a camera could be in there". i watch too many strange shows!

debbieumphress 11-09-2010 07:50 AM

So sad we have to check but it happens a lot. Thanks for the post. I feel safer now and yes I will be doing the fingernail test every where for a while. ROFL.

Thanks for sharing this. I always wonder when I am in a dressing room if the mirror is 2-way or not. Never thought about a bathroom or hotel.

leiladylei54 11-09-2010 09:27 AM

Wow, interesting!!! Thanks for the tip!!!

belmer 11-09-2010 10:32 AM

Wow, I guess I woud question this with the 2-way mirror if there was not a dressing room on both sides of me, Think about it.... Wouldn't there have to be a sepearate room on the other side of that mirror?...... If nobody is in those dressing rooms on both sides of you and someone goes in one of them right after you go in, then I might question this.

KGoodhand 11-09-2010 11:37 AM

Thanks for the tip!

BellaBoo 11-09-2010 12:11 PM

Oh, I'd love to find a 2 way mirror in a business or hotel room. I'd own the place.

Mimito2 11-09-2010 12:57 PM

Passing it on to my friends.

I've never been in a dressing room with a mirror on an adjoining dressing room wall. They have all been on real walls.

In any case, cameras are awfully small. It's rare to spot them. Best case scenario: the camera is behind the mirror and you've spotted the mirror.

I've been filmed. Way too often women are unknowingly filmed changing at work. And, of course, you've all seen the toilet camera stories. It's a power trip for pervs.
