A birdie on the feeder.

We were quite surprised to look out the window and see this birdie on the feeder. I was lucky that it waited long enough for me to get the camera.

mary quilting 05-18-2013 09:11 AM

We had a red tailed hawk on our feeder about 3 weeks ago .

That is so Cool!!! Thanks for sharing!

My daughter used to raised doves for 4H. We had several hawks come to the cage. The doves fluttered in the cage as if they were wounded so the hawks thought they were easy prey. There was a young one who tried for months to figure out how to get at those doves.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing. We have some strange looking wild life here at times but if I try to take a picture, they disappear!

Crqltr 05-18-2013 11:12 AM

Cool! I had a hawk baby come to the deck where we fed the birds, even little you could see how powerful they are!

We had a large hawk land on the handles of our lawn mower, every animal in the neighborhood went very quiet, our 80lb dog went into his dog house and all of our geese hid under the pyrycanthia bush. He groomed his feathers and then flew off.

nativetexan 05-18-2013 01:08 PM

Oh my goodness, that is a big birdie. At least my cats would think so. Lovely photo!!

alleyoop1 05-19-2013 03:46 AM

We had a Cooper Hawk come to our yard one day in the winter. All the other birds disappeared until after he flew away. But he was there for about 30 minutes, just sitting and looking around.

Looking for lunch or dinner.

Bobbielinks 05-19-2013 05:42 AM

Thank you very much for showing "him". I love all birds and always enjoy looking at pictures others have been able to take of them.

Pat G 05-19-2013 09:32 AM

That hawk is waiting for the little birds so they can be his lunch. When the sm. birds can tell there's a hawk around, they will hide in the bushes. Then the hawk swoops in so the little ones all fly out then he picks one right out of the air. I hate when that happens but I guess it's all "nature".

Very cool! I have seen hawks flying around our house, but we don't have a feeder. We do get herons and egrets hanging out at the pond in the golf course behind our house. I did manage to get a photo of a great blue walking on our neighbor's roof.

I think you need a bigger feeder.

tessagin 05-19-2013 03:11 PM

Looks like an osprey that visits my cousin's backyard in Florida. They're a little larger than a hawk.

MsSewer 05-20-2013 06:12 AM

That is a hawk waiting for a bird for his dinner. We had a hawk grab a bird off of our feeder. The hawk then went down to the deck railing and adjusted the tiny bird in him talons and took off. Unless you want the hawk feeding on the birds on your feeder I would shoo him away

Hawks eat much more than small birds. You can thank them for helping to keep the small rodent population down. Great photo!
Thanks for sharing.

richardswife 05-20-2013 09:37 AM

It looks like a hawk waiting for a smaller bird to eat.

He is after your song birds and hummingbird.

Rosebird 05-23-2013 11:34 AM

what a beautiful Picture, thanks for sharing!

quilter1 05-23-2013 12:17 PM

He is a beauty, unfortunately he is looking for lunch. We have them in our yard often, they will sit and wait, then pounce. The little birds all fly off when they come around. At least they take the mice too. Nature!

What a lovely visitor.

jrfair99 05-23-2013 02:10 PM

Beautiful. We had a peregrine falcon perch on our shepherd's hook. He was sitting there when we pulled in the driveway and towards him. He stayed until we opened the car doors and then off he went.
