There was a blue moon last night. Did you make a wish?

Condensed from Wikipedia--
A blue moon is the second full moon in a calendar month,
Full Moons bring up claims about the crime rate going up, more babies being born, average people turning into werewolves. Every twenty-eight days a full moon rises to illuminate the skies this equals twelve moons a year, but what happens when there is a thirteenth moon, the Blue Moon?

The blue moon is not only a metaphor for something that occurs rarely, but it also has a history of portending luck, though without a clear line between that of good and bad varieties.
Superstition says that the occurrence of a blue moon is the perfect time to plan long-term goals that will blossom in the future. This idea has to do with the superstition attached to the blue moon that it contains magical properties.
Any goals planned beneath the glow of the second full moon of the month are thought to have the benefit of a kind of psychic tidal pull of the satellite.
Unfortunately, the magic of the blue moon is unpredictably intense.
If you don't use very careful and precise language, the result may very well be more than you bargained for!

I totally agree that a FULL moon bring up the crime rate - because normal people at goofy - and that would make bad people act worse! :(

I think birth rates rise when the barometric pressure drops. Think I heard that from nurses in the maternity ward.

It was so clear here 2 nights ago we could see the space station Mir going over. Very neat! The moon was beautiful last night-it was so bright I thought I left my outside light on. Thanks for the info on "blue moon"-very interesting.

It was too cloudy here to even see the moon. There are all different names for moon phases.

Things like:
Harvest Moon
Liar's Moon
Apache Moon
Wet Moon
Dry Moon etc.

DGS got several pics. None did it justice. Was absolutely glorious with the sky being partly cloudy. Looked like the moons in the werewolf movies.. This morning it looked huge as GS was getting on bus at 7 am.

It was absolutely gorgeous last night. I didn't get to a camera in time and usually can't capture how pretty it really is, but it looked like it was lit from within if you know what I mean. A big beautiful glow...Gorgeous!

Ok, this is a really stupid question... but...

If the moon gets full only every 28 days, how could it be the second time it's full, when it's only the 21st?

Oh never mind. I got too curious and found an answer to my own question (from Wikipedia):

The Farmers' Almanac defined blue moon as an extra full moon that occurred in a season; one season was normally three full moons. If a season had four full moons, then the third full moon was named a blue moon.

Recent popular usage defined a blue moon as the second full moon in a calendar month, stemming from an interpretation error made in 1946 that was discovered in 1999.[1] For example, December 31, 2009 was a blue moon according to this usage.

I am too, Peach. I love folk lore and all the superstitions about things. Check it out again tonite-should be just as full except we're really cloudy already. Hope it's visible again.
