I'm not so sure this is true. You say you received an e-mail from a prosecuting atty.
Prosecuting whom?? I have a feeling you've just been scammed by someone pulling your heart strings and looking for a handout. No, this *initial* letter probably did not ask for a handout, looked like he was just was trying to "raise awareness", but if it's a scam the $$ will come in eventually. Servicemen who are dog handlers have the option of "adopting" retired dogs working in their care under a law signed into effect in 2000 (with some veterinary restrictions). For dogs that are not selected to be adopted by their handlers, there are DOZENS of organizations which support and fund operations to bring these dogs home and adopt them out to families. |

Hubby called LackLand Air Force Base & the story I wrote about is false. All dogs are returned home & usually stay with the handler. The only time a dog is euthanized is if the dog has been too badly injured to save.

I think you should check with Snopes. The whole story sounds fishy. Since 2000, it has been legal to adopt these dogs. Several of my area neighbors who returned from Afghanistan also came home with a military trained dog. I would find out more specifics than quotes from newspaper articles.

I find this hard to believe, when on our local news, they just showed a soldier who lost his legs being reunited with his dog! There is even a special place in Germany for those dogs to get their RNR time in...
