I bought my long arm machine a few months ago with the thought that I would be able to pay it off with my bonus and/or tax refund and not have to take money out of savings. The tax refund didn't work out because for SOME REASON I owe almost as much in state taxes as I will be getting back in federal! I changed my withholding last year because I had to pay... I need to go to HR about that.

I had no idea what the bonus would be this year with the economy and being in a mortgage related business. Didn't get one the last two years but, the company said there would be one. Well, I got the bonus and it was 5-figures!

Of course, half of that goes to taxes but I can still pay off the 0% interest for 6 months credit card that I put the machine on. :D

Now I can rest easy about it and not have that hanging over my head.

Sounds like you were a smart lady! I envy you getting a LA....I hope to do that some day. Happy it all worked out for you and congrats on your nice bonus!

pittsburgpam 03-12-2010 05:58 PM

I am very thankful for the bonus, and having a job. I got a small raise too. I just hope to stay with the company for 8+ more years and take the early retirement at age 55. I've been with the company for almost 17 years now.

I won't use H&R block, I pay an accountant to handle my returns. I have never had a problem since I started this practice eons ago.

pittsburgpam 03-12-2010 07:48 PM

Not H&R Block... I meant the HR department at work. :) I changed my withholding last year because I ended up having to pay so I expected to get a refund.

Chasing Hawk 03-12-2010 08:09 PM

wvdek 03-12-2010 08:49 PM

Wonderful news.

bodie358 03-12-2010 08:54 PM

I am so glad for you. I live in Calif too and the state decided a few years back to not take as much out of our checks for taxes as they did in the past. This is supposed to stimulate the economy because we spend it instead of using it to pay off bills like we do when we get a huge chunk back. I know a lot of people that have owed the state in the last two years.

pittsburgpam 03-12-2010 09:22 PM

I didn't know that about CA taxes. When I saw how much I owed I thought... how can that be? I looked it up and they withheld less than they did the previous year.

Lisanne 03-12-2010 09:41 PM

Congratulations! That has to feel great.

Leota 03-12-2010 09:49 PM

SWEEET!!! Same as cash and it's ALLLLL yours :) Congrats.
