Book Recommendation: Quilt of Souls
I just finished a wonderful memoir, Quilt of Souls, by Phyllis Lawson. When the author was a small child she was taken away from her home and family and sent to rural Alabama to live with her grandmother, who she didn't know. As they repaired an old family quilt with fabric from a scrap bag filled with pieces of fabric from clothing of family members who had died, the grandmother tells her the stories of her people. This memoir is brutal at times- remember this is rural Alabama in the 1950's and 60‘s- but it is a wonderful book.
