Sorry... It's a family story of two daughters who don't have a relationship with their mother. She eventually tells them the story of her life as a young woman in Leningrad during the war and they come to understand her and themselves as well. It's beautifully written, but it will probably make you cry.

Thanks for posting back! It sounds intriguing. I usually avoid sad, depressing books, but I like the sound of this one.

It's actually very warm despite the sad parts. The characters are beautifully developed, all affected by their youth in different ways, and their journey to acceptance and self fulfillment is touching and realistic.

I have read all of her books and this one was great.
